TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE FRAME. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE CORROSION, THE BRAKE LINES FAILED. I PURCHASED A USED 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4WD IN JULY AND AROUND SEPT OF THIS YEAR I HAD TROUBLE BREAKING IN LOW MPH SITUATIONS SUCH AS STOP SIGNS, LIGHTS AND IN PARKING SITUATIONS WHERE THE ABS WOULD TRIGGER ON DRY CLEAN PAVEMENT CAUSING MANY CLOSE CALLS WHERE I ALMOST REAR ENDED VEHICLES OR RAN INTO BUILDINGS ECT. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM IN "SALT USING STATES" WHICH IRONICALLY DOES NOT INCLUDE WISCONSIN OR MINNESOTA. Summary of Complaint

THERE HAS BEEN A FAILURE BY BREAKAGE IN ONE OF THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES, WHICH COMPLETELY FRACTURED AFTER CORROSION. AS A RESULT OF THIS HAPPENING I OBSERVED THE SECOND SUPPORT CABLE, AND SEE IT IS WEAKENED BY CORRISION, AND WILL FRACTURE THE SAME WAY. THIS BREAKAGE OCCURRED AFTER OPENING THE TRUCK TAILGATE, AND FORTUNATELY OCCURRED BEFORE I WAS GOING TO JUMP INTO THE BOX OF THE TRUCK. BREAKAGE OF THE SECOND CABLE WILL RESULT IN THE TAILGATE DROPPING OFF, CAUSING POSSIBLE INJURY.

THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO RUN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. THE DEALER DID NOT COOPERATE UNTIL A RECALL WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED TO START ITSELF BUT IF THE VEHICLE BEGUN TO MOVE, THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WAS TO PULL THE ELECTRICAL IMPULSE OR PULL ONE OF THE TWO FUSES THAT WENT WITH THE ABS SYSTEM, AND WOULD MAKE THE VEHICLE STOP. Summary of Complaint

I OWN A 1999 CHEVY SIVLERADO. ON 12/27/02 I STARTED MY VEHICLE AFTER LEAVING WORK AND NOTICED THAT THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON. AFTER I GOT HOME AND SHUT THE TRUCK OFF THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK (SOUNDED LIKE AN ELECTRIC MOTOR RUNNING). I DROVE THE TRUCK OVER TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND ONE OF THE TECH'S LISTENED TO THE TRUCK AND DIAGNOSED IT AS THE ABS MODULE. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER TO CALL ME WITH A QUOTE FOR REPAIR. HE CALLED ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE ABS MODULE, AND IT WOULD COST AROUND $1000 TO REPAIR. I DECLINED REPAIR AS I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WOULD FUNCTION FINE BY JUST PULLING THE ABS FUSE (THE ABS WOULDN'T WORK, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD WORK FINE). TRYING TO NEGOTIATE WITH DEALER AND/OR GM ON REPAIR COST. TRUCK HAS 60000 MILES, SO THEY ARE SAYING "OUT OF WARRANTY". I SAID "STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT!" SAW THESE OTHER INSTANCES OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS WEB SITE, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD ADD MINE. LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS ON THIS VEHICLE AND THEY ARE NOT TAKING CARE OF IT.
