REAR POWER SUPPLY STARTED SMOKING AFTER A CHARGING COMPONENT WAS PLUGGED IN. Summary of Complaint

I STARTED MY CAR BY THE FACTORY INSTALLED REMOTE STARTER AND WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND I HEARD A HIGH PITCHED HUM COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE 'BATTERY SAVER ON' LIGHT WAS ON. I STARTED TO DRIVE AND THE CAR WAS REALLY SLUGGISH ALMOST TO THE POINT IF I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IT WOULD SHUT DOWN. I DROVER THAT WAY FOR ABOUT 2 MILES AND DURING THAT TIME I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR BY USING THE PUSH BUTTON AND THE MESSAGE WAS GONE, BUT ONCE THE CAR WAS PUT INTO DRIVE THE BATTERY SAVER MESSAGE CAME ON AND BURNING SMELL WAS BACK. . I HAD THE CAR TOWED INTO THE ELGIN JEEP DODGE DEALERSHIP ON A FRIDAY NIGHT (ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER EVERYTHING HAPPENED) AND ON MONDAY I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING SHOWED UP AND THAT IT WAS PROBABLY THE ALTERNATOR BUT SINCE NO ERROR CODES SHOWED THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL (#T36/ NHTSA 17V-435) FOR THE ALTERNATOR. THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD TAKE THE CAR BACK AND HOPE THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN AND WHEN THE PARTS COME IN FOR THE RECALL COME BACK AND GET IT FIX THEN. I DID CONTACT FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES (FCA) TO TRY AND GET IT TEMPORARY FIX BUT DUE TO THERE BEING NO ERROR CODES THEY WILL NOT FIX ANYTHING. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE FCA WILL NOT FIX ANYTHING UNTIL THE CAR STARTS ON FIRE. I DRIVE ABOUT 40 MILES A DAY ON AN EXPRESSWAY WHERE SPEEDS ARE ABOUT 60-70 MPH, I DON'T FEEL SAFE THAT THE ALTERNATOR WILL JUST GO AND THE CAR WILL STOP. I FEEL THAT SINCE THERE WAS A SIGN OF ISSUES THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE FIXED.

HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH MY CHARGER WHICH ONLY HAS 7300 MILES ON IT. LIKE OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED, WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR WILL JUMP FORWARD. FEELS LIKE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING LATE. THEN WHEN DRIVING AND GETTING UP TO SPEED, THE RPMS WILL JUMP UP BUT THE CAR DOES NOT SPEED UP. THE LAST TIME THE RPMS INCREASED, I QUICKLY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE RPMS CONTINUED TO RISE TO 5K. BOTH ISSUES HAPPEN SPORADICALLY. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER 2X. FIRST TIME THEY HAD FOR 2 DAYS, REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID THEY FIXED IT. I TOOK IT HOME OVER THE WEEKEND AND BOTH ISSUES STILL HAPPENED. TOOK CAR BACK IN ON MONDAY AND THIS TIME THEY HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS AND GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR. TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (VALVE BODY SEPARATE PLATE PART) AND IS WORKING ON A FIX. THE PART/FIX WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE AT END OF MAY/EARLY JUNE, BUT SINCE IT'S ALREADY 6/5, OBVIOUSLY THAT DATE WAS NOT AN ACCURATE TIME FRAME. (STAR CASE NO. S1421000013 DATE 4/9/14) THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE. THEY COULD NOT LET ME KEEP THE RENTAL CAR (WARRANTY COVERAGE TIME MAX OUT), AND GAVE ME BACK MY CHARGER TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY CAN FIX IT. I TOOK IT HOME AND ON THE WAY HOME IT HAPPEN AGAIN AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND GOT IT CHECKED. AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND CORROSION THE SIGNAL PLUG OF THE ALTERNATOR. THEY CLEANED IT AND SAID IT OK NOW. A WEEK PASSED BY AND IT HAPPEN AGAIN ALL ELECTRICAL STARTED TO TURN ON AND OFF INCLUDING THE STEERING LOCKING UP AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. AND I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN TO THE DEALER. AND NOW THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE IF IT'S NOT THE ALTERNATOR.
