WHILE FORD STATES THE VEHICLE IS OK TO DRIVE THEY INFORMED ME NOT TO PARK NEAR STRUCTURES OR INSIDE GARAGES UNTIL THE REPAIR IS COMPLETED IN AUGUST, THEY CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE IF I DO SO. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE. I PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION AND MY HUSBAND CHECKED TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. WE COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS WRONG AND DROVE HOME. AGAIN THE CAR WAS SHAKING THEN IT STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND THEN WE HEARD SOMETHING SNAP AND THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED IT TURNED OUT THAT WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE VALVE SHEERED FROM THE VALVE STEM AND THE VALVE SHATTERED THE PISTON AND ENDED DENTING THE OIL PAN AND WAS FOUND IN THE OIL PAN. THIS ENDED UP COSTING US $5000. WE CALLED THE DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2004 AND HE SAID THAT HE WAS WILLING TO HELP US, BUT DECIDED NOT TO STATING IT WOULD BE "BAD BUSINESS" TO REPLACE TO CAR EVEN THOUGH WE HAD PURCHASED IT 8 MONTHS PREVIOUS TO THE INCIDENT. WE THEN HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE A NEW ENGINE WAS PLACED IN THE 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE SPEAKING TO A FORD MECHANIC HE STATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE TO THE ESCAPE. THE DEALER THAT FINALLY ENDED UP WORKING ON THE ESCAPE CALLED FORD AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM BUT FORD STATED THAT THEY HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS BUT THERE WASN'T ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT. LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND HAD TO MANHANDLE IT OFF TO THE SIDE.RESTARTED BY PUTTING IN PARK BUT HAD TO WAIT TILL MONDAY TO TALK TO SERVICE DEPT AT DEALER. ON MONDAY 6/24 DEALER WOULD NOT TAKE VEHICLE-TOO BUSY, AND HAD TO WAIT TILL 6/25 TO DELIVER TO DEALER. SERVICE PERSON SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE BUT I DID NOT DUE TO DANGEROUS NATURE OF THE PROBLEM. DEALER RECEIVED CAR ON 6/25, HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS AND REPLACED IAC. THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER PICKING IT UP IT STALLED 2 TIMES AT 30MPH OFF THROTTLE. RENDERED UNUSABLE FOR THE WEEKEND. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER FOR THIRD TIME ON 7/1 AND THEY HAVE HAD IT EVER SINCE. TODAY IS 7/16 AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE A TEMPORART FIX THAT SHOULD WORK TILL FORD ISSUES A PERMANENT FIX. I AM NOT RISKING MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS WHO ARE UNFORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE DRIVING NEAR ME WHEN IT STALLS SO I AM REFUSING VEHICLE AND SEEKING A NEW IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT. I PRINTED OFF SOME OF THE RESPONSES, TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO LONG FORD IN EUREKA, MO ON 9-11-01. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEM AND ALSO TALKED WITH THE FORD ENGINEERS. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS STATING THAT FORD WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE IT UNLESS THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I THEN CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY SO THERE WOULD BE A RECORD, BUT WAS NOT ADVISED OF ANY "FIX" FOR THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING THE NUMBER OF MILES I DRIVE EACH DAY ON VERY BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. I AM NERVOUS EVEN MOVING OUT OF THE RIGHT LANE BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO BE CLOSE TO THE SHOULDER IN THE EVENT THIS OCCURS AGAIN.
