Summary of Complaint

THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. DRIVER PULLED TO SAFE AREA AND STOPPED CAR AT WHICH POINT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. NO WARNING/EMERGENCY LIGHTS DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (NO CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY, OVERHEAT, OR OTHER HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY DISPLAYED). TOWED TO CLOSEST FORD DEALER. DIAGNOSTICS STATED TRANSMISSION FAILURE (92,000 MI; BOUGHT USED FROM FORD DEALER IN 2017 WITH 60K MILES). TRANSMISSION REPLACED. DURING TEST DRIVE FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT, FORD DEALER MECHANIC IDENTIFIED A RATTLING NOISE. THIS NOISE WAS NOT HEARD PRIOR TO THE FAILURE BUT MAY HAVE BEEN PRESENT DURING THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BUT NOT HEARD BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER/ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THE MECHANIC RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED A CRACKED FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR SIMILAR FORD CARS (I.E. EDGE) FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AND REPAIRS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL INCLUDED REPAIRS OF TRANSMISSION. ADDITIONALLY, TRANSMISSION/FLEXPLATE FAILURES IN THE 2014 ESCAPE IS INCLUDED IN A 2020 CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT ALLEGING FORD ACTIVELY CONCEALED ENGINE & TRANSMISSION FAILURES. VEHICLES IDENTIFIED IN THIS SETTLEMENT SHOULD BE RECALLED. CONSUMERS WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR IDENTIFIED FAILURES SHOULD BE REIMBURSED PARTS/LABOR BY FORD. THE VEHICLE IN THIS INCIDENT WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN A PRIOR ENGINE RECALL. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY A FORD DEALER IN MAY 2018.

Summary of Complaint

DUE TO COOLANT LEAK/BURNING/LEAKING INTO ENGINE I AM HAVING TO ADD COOLANT TO MY VEHICLE EVERY OTHER MONTH WHEN THE VEHICLE ALERTS ME THAT COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW. I TOOK CAR IN BACK IN 2018 WHEN THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE WAS CREATED. THE RECALL DID NOTHING TO FIX THE ACTUAL ISSUE OF WHERE THE COOLANT WAS GOING AND ONLY INSERTED A SENSOR IN THE SYSTEM TO NOTIFY THE DRIVER OF THE ISSUE SOONER TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT ENGINE FROM CATCHING FIRE DUE TO RUNNING TOO HOT. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 55K MILES AND ENGINE IS NOT PERFORMING AS IT DID BEFORE AND I AM CONCERNED THAT COOLANT HAS DAMAGED MY ENGINE. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SAID THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS 2014 MODEL YEAR THAT IT IS OUT OF ANY WARRANTY. THIS IS REALLY NOT ACCEPTABLE AS I MENTIONED THEY IDENTIFIED AN ISSUE WITH THE COOLANT BUT DIDN'T FIX IT AND ONLY PUT AN EARLY ALERT IN. PLEASE LOOK INTO AND ADVISE HOW I CAN GET THIS CORRECTED OR REPLACED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IN 2018 THE VEHICLE SAID IT WAS RUNNING HOT AND REDUCED POWER AND I COULD ONLY DRIVE IT FOR A FEW MINS AT A TIME TO GET IT TO A DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. THIS WAS IN JULY 2018 AND I HAVE BEEN ADDING COOLANT EVERY COUPLE OF FEW MONTHS SINCE JULY OF 2018.

IN FEB 2019 I HAD MY FORD ESCAPE SERVICED FOR AN ENGINE COOLANT RECALL (17S09). IN OCTOBER 2020 THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOUND MY ENGINE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS OF MY ENGINE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BY THE RECALL. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND FORD CLAIMS THE REPAIR WILL BE $5,000. THEY CLAIM THAT THE RECALL WILL NOT COVER THE EXPENSE. I AM WRITING FOR FORD TO REOPEN RECALL 17S09. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND LIABILITY.

Summary of Complaint

I have had a 2014 Ford escape titanium 1.6L turbo, but I have had two transmissions (6F35) fail for the exact same reason. The torque converter is shooting metal into the transmission causing an internal failure. This has resulted in me having to pay for yet another transmission costing me at least $6,000 from the repair and then for acquiring a rental vehicle. I've been told by my repair shop that this is a common issue with this transmission. The failure both times has happened when I have been driving at a high rate of speed on the expressway and I suddenly lose the ability to drive the car and I have to coast to safety. The first time this happened I did experience a warning from my on board system but the second time the failure happened and nothing came up on the dash. I currently have an extended warranty through endurance that is not paying for this repair. This will be the second claim that I have made then I will have to pay out of pocket. I think there seriously needs to be a recall or some sort of redesign done on this torque converter.

Summary of Complaint

I was driving down the road on my way home from the store my car suddenly stalled on me. I would have been rear ended had I not been able to pull over on the side of the road because a car was right behind me. I was fortunate to be able to not hit ant trees or mailboxes on the side of the road or that there was not a deep ditch! It could have been a bad wreck with deadly injuries. The engine was still running even though it loss power. There was no warning. The engine light never came on. I tried getting back on the the road, the car would barely go and was making a grinder /wining noise.Still on engine light or warning. I managed to get to my drive way, then the gear slipped and the car jerked bad! I was able to get it in the driveway! I had it towed to a automotive shop. The technician determined I have transmission failure! I am having to get a new transmission!!! I the car has 58,000 miles on it when it happened. It’s my understanding that this has happened to other people with 2014 Ford Escape.

I got an engine light I took the car to Ford dealer here in Scarborough Toronto he told me the car coolant has been leaking into engine blocks. The dealer is claiming it has nothing to do with the recall. Ford won't fix it and is saying it's not part of the recall. They are saying I have to replace my whole engine. Summary of Complaint

Light went off for low tire pressure. Rear passenger side tire was low. Filled with air and drove for a couple weeks; light again went off. Filled tire again and took to service center this morning to see if something had penetrated tire or if bead had loosened. Service center found nail in tire and repaired. They had to replace 4 lug nuts as they were swollen. (I didn’t even know this was possible!). A simple and inexpensive tire repair turned into more than expected, which is rough when you’re on a small, fixed income. My fear is that I will eventually have the same experience/expense, at some point in time, with the other three tires. As a side note, and something that maybe should be filed as a separate complaint, is that the back-up camera malfunctions frequently…sometimes with image appearing upside down or a completely black screen. I spoke with two separate repair shops and was told it couldn’t be fixed…had to be replaced…and was quoted over $500 to replace it…obviously something I cannot afford to do. Was told it’s a common issue on Escapes, yet there have been no recalls for this issue. If we’re really trying to improve safety, then maybe this issue needs to be addressed as well. I have heard they will be required on new cars in the future; but something needs to be done about existing failures…and to set a standard regarding future failures on those new cars. My camera went out after warranty expiration, so I had no way to afford to fix it. Ford should stand behind their product and replace these defective cameras. My car now has 95,207 miles on it, and the camera failed over a year ago. I wouldn’t think a 7-year-old (6-year-old at time of failure) car with less than 100,000 miles on it should have that type of failure. Ford needs to use better equipment or offer better warranties. For most of us, $500 is a pretty substantial expense, and I’ll bet there are a lot of Escapes with defective cameras that people can’t afford to fix.

Vehicle continues to lose coolant. No visible leaks. Vehicle previously tested for coolant loss. Dealership performed pressure test. Tested satisfactory. Problem has persisted. FORD has issued a recall for coolant loss. Contacted FORD, told my vehicle is not on the recall list. My vehicle has the 1.6l ecoboost engine that has a known problem of coolant leaking into the cylinders. FORD customer service is unable to explain why my vehicle is not part of the recall, only saying my VIN is not part of the coolant recall. At some point my vehicle will suffer catastrophic engine failure or a fire. FORD has put coolant level sensors in vehicles with this engine. This does not solve the leaking problem, but at least monitors coolant level. My VIN strangely does not qualify for this.

Summary of Complaint

A common issue on these Ford Escapes (Mine is a 2014) are the canister purge valve sticks open , causing the fuels vapors to enter engine while fueling. This essentially floods the engine when fueling. It also throws a check engine light and runs lean. I have seen hundreds of issues which the Ford Escapes and nothing has been done about it . This should be covered under the emissions defect warranty but the part is not listed. The weird part is this same exact issue is listed under numerous recalls for different models such as the Ford Focus. I have no idea why Ford is not acknowledging this issue on the Escape ,especially on the 1.6 EcoBoost engine - which is a PAIN to change the canister purge valve. Hopefully Ford fixes this and sends recalls to everyone affected.

Summary of Complaint

The valve for the eco system is stuck open which causes car to stall while driving and loses power on a flat surface(most do that uphill) and revs engine rpms way too high and tranny slips. I have a aftermarket warranty that is bumper to bumper but seems everytime i take it to garage the warranty company claims the parts aren't covered. I can't afford this repair which is going to cost me $600. The company doesn't even pay for the diagnosis which is another $90. Ford investigation needs to recheck their results over
