Summary of Complaint

THE VEHICLE'S STEERING IS TOO SENSITIVE AT HIGHER SPEED. GENERALLY SPEAKING ABOVE 65 MPH ANY MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO THAT DIRECTION. WHEN A CORRECTION IS MADE, THE VEHICLE GOES THE OPPOSITE WAY (TOO MUCH) WHICH TENDS TO MAKE VEHICLE FEEL AND LOOK AS IF IT WANDERS ON THE ROADWAY. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS DUE TO "ELECTRONIC STEERING." MANY COMPLAINS ARE FOUND ONLINE OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER DRIVERS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CRASH CAUSING PROBLEM AND DRIVERS NEED TO BE ON HIGH ALERT FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I WOULD THINK IF THIS IS INVESTIGATED, CRASHES WITH CAUSES OF DRIVER INATTENTION WHEREAS A VEHICLE GOES OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD OR LEFT OF CENTER, SENSITIVE STEERING MAYBE THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IN MANY CASES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I FEEL THIS IS A ENGINEERING PROBLEM SUCH AS THE IGNITION SWITCHES ON THE GM PRODUCTS. THIS WAS ALL POINTED OUT TO THE REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER HEATHER NABB. FORD'S RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM IS UNTIL THERE IS A "FAILURE", THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO. *TR

Summary of Complaint

I have had a 2014 Ford escape titanium 1.6L turbo, but I have had two transmissions (6F35) fail for the exact same reason. The torque converter is shooting metal into the transmission causing an internal failure. This has resulted in me having to pay for yet another transmission costing me at least $6,000 from the repair and then for acquiring a rental vehicle. I've been told by my repair shop that this is a common issue with this transmission. The failure both times has happened when I have been driving at a high rate of speed on the expressway and I suddenly lose the ability to drive the car and I have to coast to safety. The first time this happened I did experience a warning from my on board system but the second time the failure happened and nothing came up on the dash. I currently have an extended warranty through endurance that is not paying for this repair. This will be the second claim that I have made then I will have to pay out of pocket. I think there seriously needs to be a recall or some sort of redesign done on this torque converter.

Summary of Complaint

I was driving down the road on my way home from the store my car suddenly stalled on me. I would have been rear ended had I not been able to pull over on the side of the road because a car was right behind me. I was fortunate to be able to not hit ant trees or mailboxes on the side of the road or that there was not a deep ditch! It could have been a bad wreck with deadly injuries. The engine was still running even though it loss power. There was no warning. The engine light never came on. I tried getting back on the the road, the car would barely go and was making a grinder /wining noise.Still on engine light or warning. I managed to get to my drive way, then the gear slipped and the car jerked bad! I was able to get it in the driveway! I had it towed to a automotive shop. The technician determined I have transmission failure! I am having to get a new transmission!!! I the car has 58,000 miles on it when it happened. It’s my understanding that this has happened to other people with 2014 Ford Escape.

Summary of Complaint

It is an ongoing issue with the 2014 escape. They had a recall out for the coolant system. A healthy engine does not use coolant. I kept having it checked it had no visible leaks but was losing coolant No visible leaks. I got an engine light I took the car to Ford dealer here in Scarborough Toronto he told me the car coolant has been leaking into engine blocks. The dealer is claiming it has nothing to do with the recall. Ford won't fix it and is saying it's not part of the recall. They are saying I have to replace my whole engine. It is a 2014 Ford escape with 110000Km on it.

Summary of Complaint

Light went off for low tire pressure. Rear passenger side tire was low. Filled with air and drove for a couple weeks; light again went off. Filled tire again and took to service center this morning to see if something had penetrated tire or if bead had loosened. Service center found nail in tire and repaired. They had to replace 4 lug nuts as they were swollen. (I didn’t even know this was possible!). A simple and inexpensive tire repair turned into more than expected, which is rough when you’re on a small, fixed income. My fear is that I will eventually have the same experience/expense, at some point in time, with the other three tires. As a side note, and something that maybe should be filed as a separate complaint, is that the back-up camera malfunctions frequently…sometimes with image appearing upside down or a completely black screen. I spoke with two separate repair shops and was told it couldn’t be fixed…had to be replaced…and was quoted over $500 to replace it…obviously something I cannot afford to do. Was told it’s a common issue on Escapes, yet there have been no recalls for this issue. If we’re really trying to improve safety, then maybe this issue needs to be addressed as well. I have heard they will be required on new cars in the future; but something needs to be done about existing failures…and to set a standard regarding future failures on those new cars. My camera went out after warranty expiration, so I had no way to afford to fix it. Ford should stand behind their product and replace these defective cameras. My car now has 95,207 miles on it, and the camera failed over a year ago. I wouldn’t think a 7-year-old (6-year-old at time of failure) car with less than 100,000 miles on it should have that type of failure. Ford needs to use better equipment or offer better warranties. For most of us, $500 is a pretty substantial expense, and I’ll bet there are a lot of Escapes with defective cameras that people can’t afford to fix.

Summary of Complaint

Vehicle continues to lose coolant. No visible leaks. Vehicle previously tested for coolant loss. Dealership performed pressure test. Tested satisfactory. Problem has persisted. FORD has issued a recall for coolant loss. Contacted FORD, told my vehicle is not on the recall list. My vehicle has the 1.6l ecoboost engine that has a known problem of coolant leaking into the cylinders. FORD customer service is unable to explain why my vehicle is not part of the recall, only saying my VIN is not part of the coolant recall. At some point my vehicle will suffer catastrophic engine failure or a fire. FORD has put coolant level sensors in vehicles with this engine. This does not solve the leaking problem, but at least monitors coolant level. My VIN strangely does not qualify for this.

Summary of Complaint

A common issue on these Ford Escapes (Mine is a 2014) are the canister purge valve sticks open , causing the fuels vapors to enter engine while fueling. This essentially floods the engine when fueling. It also throws a check engine light and runs lean. I have seen hundreds of issues which the Ford Escapes and nothing has been done about it . This should be covered under the emissions defect warranty but the part is not listed. The weird part is this same exact issue is listed under numerous recalls for different models such as the Ford Focus. I have no idea why Ford is not acknowledging this issue on the Escape ,especially on the 1.6 EcoBoost engine - which is a PAIN to change the canister purge valve. Hopefully Ford fixes this and sends recalls to everyone affected.

I didn't receive any warning on the dashboard until this had been going on for nearly 2 hours so there was definitely a delayed response on the dashboard of any warning or malfunction. My husband and I pulled over multiple times, turned off the car and allowed it to sit for 15-30 minutes then carried on our way. It wasn't until 2 hours after this issue started that we suddenly received a warning on the dashboard that stated transmission fault service now. Every time we would stop, turn off the car and turn it back on the warning on the dashboard disappeared. It would eventually come back on approximately 20-30 minutes later. We were far from home and wouldn't have been able to get a tow unless we were within a 100 mile radius. We drove the vehicle as far as we could then without warning the vehicle it shut off. It lost all power completely. I took the vehicle for a diagnostic to a reputable Ford Dealership and I'm being told that I need an engine and transmission. I did a bit of research and found that Ford Escape are nitrous for Engine and Transmission issues. I've found several articles where individuals complained of the exact same issue as mines. Ford needs to be held accountable for making such an unreliable vehicle! They made a vehicle that is known to have a multitude of major safety issues yet has done nothing to resolve the matter. Now we are stuck with a vehicle that doesn't work! We have to continue making payments on a vehicle that is of no use! We are both disabled as well so this vehicle was our lifeline to getting around!

Summary of Complaint

Driving a friends vehicle, got out to run into an open garage for an errand. Placed floor shift in park, left driver door open, vehicle running...no chime! Came back to SUV, friend had gotten out of the passenger side, closed door and was standing at the rear of the vehicle. She stated that she needed to get into the cargo area and that I needed to turn the vehicle off so that it could be opened. I questioned why I could not just push the door open button and she stated that it was a safety feature. She came around to the outside of the driver's door and said to reach in and turn it off, at which time the SUV immediately went into reverse, caught me under the door and dragged me approximately 20-25 feet The vehicle came to rest partially on the driveway and partially in grass. I had road rash on my back and massive blood loss in my abdomen as well as bruising on thigh and elbows. It is my understanding that this model has been recalled for both the lack of chime when running, key in the ignition, door open AND a transmission bushing that malfunctions and does not properly go into park by using the gear shifter. And that others have been dragged by their 2014 Escapes. I do not own this vehicle and the owner stated that I did not properly put it into park OR knocked it out of park when I reached in to turn the ignition off. Therefore she will not have the vehicle checked for a malfunction.
