RECALL FOR ABS WAS ISSUED BACK ON DEC 18, 2019. LAST UPDATE IS THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FIX EXPECTED BY END OF FIRST QUARTER OF 2020. IT'S NOW THE END OF FIRST QUARTER OF 2021 (15 MONTHS LATER) AND THERE IS STILL NO INDICATION OF A REPAIR DATE. IN ADDITION THERE IS NOW A SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE DRIVER AIRBAG AS WELL. I UNDERSTAND IT TAKES TIME TO IMPLEMENT A FIX, BUT IT SEEM AS IF THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT PUTTING ENOUGH PRIORITY ON GETTING THESE REPAIRS DONE IN A TIMELY MATTER. AT THIS RATE, WITH TWO ACTIVE SAFETY RECALLS, EITHER FIXES NEED TO BE EXPEDITED; OR AN ACCEPTABLE BUY-BACK PLAN THAT ENSURES OWNERS ARE COMPENSATED FOR THE FULL VEHICLE VALUE PLUS TIME AND RISK.

THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS 3-4 YEARS AGO. MY WIFE WAS BRAKING AT A STOP LIGHT AND HIT A SMALL POTHOLE IN WHICH THE BREAK PETAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND SHE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A FULL STOP EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK A LOT LONGER TO DO SO. SHE PULLED OVER AND I HAD TO PICK HER UP AND TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL BREAK REPAIR CHAIN. BY THE TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO CHECK IT OUT THE BREAKS WERE WORKING FINE AGAIN. WHEN WE DESCRIBED THE ISSUE THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY REPORTS OF THIS ON THE INTERNET. I BELIEVE THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE BREAK FLUID WAS CHANGED SINCE THE LOCATIONS INDICATED WET OR DIRTY BREAK FLUID CAN CAUSE THESE SYMPTOMS. THIS HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES TO MY WIFE AND SHE DECIDED SHE WOULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR. I THEN STARTED DRIVING AND AGAIN IN A SIMILAR SCENARIO IN WHICH I WAS BREAKING AND RAN OVER A MANHOLE COVER THE BREAKS WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. I AGAIN TOOK IT TO ANOTHER BREAK SPECIALIST FRANCHISE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR OR ON THE INTERNET ALTHOUGH THE BREAKS PEDAL HAS BECOME SOFT AND HAS REMAINED THAT WAY. BREAK FLUID WAS CHANGED AGAIN FOR BEING DIRTY. MY BREAKS HAVE CONTINUED TO BE SOFT AND WILL REPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN BRAKING AND HITTING A BUMP BUT APPEARS TO BE ONLY WHEN THE BUMP HITS THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. I NEED TO GET MY BREAK PADS REPLACED NOW AND DECIDED TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE AGAIN AND I AM FINDING THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. DURING A BRAKING EVENT ON A SNOWY, SLIPPERY SURFACE, MY ABS WAS ACTIVATED. I WAS SLOWING DOWN FROM ~50MPH TO 0MPH IN ORDER TO MAKE A TURN. AFTER MY ABS ACTIVATED DURING THE INITIAL APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE, MY PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND I CAN NOW PRESS IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. DUE TO THIS INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL, IT TAKES ME A SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER DISTANCE/TIME TO SLOW MY CAR DOWN. IF I WERE TO APPLY THE BRAKES NORMALLY, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME AND COULD END UP IN AN INTERSECTION OR IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE AND MY BRAKES WERE BLED TO 'ADDRESS' THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE NOW HAS REOCCURRED AFTER ANOTHER ABS EVENT. THESE INCIDENTS ARE SIMILAR TO WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE OPEN NHTSA INVESTIGATION PE16-017.
