ONE NIGHT I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY TO RUN SOME ERRANDS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 35 MILES PER HOUR IN A MAIN STREET WHEN I SUDDENLY HEAR A SOUND COMING FROM MY VEHICLE ALERTING ME THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT DETECTED A MALFUNCTION. AT THE MOMENT I WAS ALERT AND VIEWING MY DASH REGARDING THE ILLUMINATION IT THREW UNTIL I SUDDENLY FELT MY STEERING GEAR BECOME REALLY STIFF AND PULLING ME TO THE SIDE NEAR THE CURB REALLY FAST. I HAD LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE TO STEER THAT RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE JUMPING UP THE CURB AND COLLIDING WITH A LIGHT POLE DAMAGING THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY FRONT BUMPER AND PASSENGER FRONT AND REAR DOOR. THE MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE HAPPEN TO MY VEHICLE WHICH LEFT SCRATCHES, DENTS, AND PAINT AND BODY DAMAGE TO PRETTY MUCH THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. THE LIGHT POLE CONSIDERING THE IMPACT FROM JUMPING UP THE CURB ASSISTED IN NOT CAUSING ANY STREET DAMAGE TOWARD THE STREET LIGHT. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT IMMEDIATELY TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO FILE A CLAIM. EVENTUALLY I WAS INFORMED BY A FEW OF MY COWORKERS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ABOUT THE STEERING GEAR ON THE 2011 FORD FUSIONS. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALER IN WHICH WAS A REALLY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE SINCE THEY AUTOMATICALLY CLOSED THERE DOOR IN MY FACE WHEN I INFORMED THEM ABOUT THE STEERING GEAR ISSUE AND RECALL. THERE EXCUSE WAS MY VIN DID NOT MATCH THE RECALL ISSUED SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. FORD THEN QUOTED ME OVER $2000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR AND PROGRAMMING. I WAS SO PISSED AND LEFT EMPTY HANDED SINCE DOWN THE ROAD I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PURCHASE THE STEERING GEAR AND YET TO STILL SELL ME A DEFECTIVE ONE THAT I HAD AN OUTSIDE SHOP PERFORM THE WORK TWICE. AFTER MY REPAIRS I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR A REIMBURSEMENT IN WHICH TILL THIS DAY, THEY DO NOT WANT TO ISSUE ME ONE.

I WAS DRIVING EARLY IN THE MORNING ON JULY 4, 2015 AND THE STEERING WENT OUT PRIOR TO HITTING A DEER. I TRIED TO AVOID HITTING THE DEER BUT COULDN'T TURN FAST ENOUGH DUE TO THE LOSS OF STEERING. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THE SUBFRAME AND BOTH UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH SIDES REPLACED AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT COMPLETED AS WELL. STILL THE LOSS OF STEERING EXISTS AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS NOT WANTING TO FIX THE ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME THE LOST OF STEERING OCCURED I TOOK THE CAR TO MIDAS AND THEY REPLACED THE TWO 50 AMP FUSES AND STEERING WAS RESTORED. BUT FORD DEALERSHIP IS STATING THEY SAW NO DTCS RELATING TO LOSS OF STEERING BUT THE LOSS OF STEERING MESSAGE STILL SHOWS UP ON DASH.

WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS AT A OFF RAMP EXIT AND HAD ALMOST ZERO STEERING I PANICKED AND TRIED TO GET OFF THE EXIT WHICH HAD A SHARP RADIUS TURN, I COULD NOT KEEP THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD AND TRAVELED OFF INTO TO GRASS UNTIL I COULD SKID TO A STOP. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT SITUATION OTHER THEN THE GRASS I WAS ABLE TO CRASH OFF INTO I OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. IT TOOK EVERY BIT OF STRENGTH I HAVE TO TRY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT FROM A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AS MY VEHICLE LOST STEERING I HAD TWO DASH WARNINGS THAT CAME ON. ADVANCED TRAC AND POWER STEERING BOTH QUIT WORKING. WITH THE RESEARCH I'VE DONE I THINK ITS A DISGRACE THAT FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NO WAY TO PAY OVER $2000 TO GET MY CAR OPERATIONAL AGAIN. I WILL NO DOUBT LOOSE MY JOB DO TO NOW NOT HAVING TRANSPORTATION. MY CAR ONLY HAS 48500 MILES ON IT. THANKS FORD *TR

ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 7TH 2013, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION WAS RIDGED AND JUMPY. PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF RANDOMLY APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES WHILE IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION. THIS PROMPTED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR MAINTENANCE AT A FORD DEALER AUTO CENTER. THEY DETERMINED THE POWER TAKEOFF UNIT AND DRIVE SHAFT WERE FAULTY, REPLACED BOTH PARTS AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME ON FEBRUARY 15TH 2013. ON MARCH 18TH 2013, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON A BUSY ROAD, FORCING ME TO NAVIGATE CAUTIOUSLY TO A SHOULDER. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED THIS TIME. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED 5 MINUTES, AND RESTARTED. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE. I QUICKLY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE PREVIOUS FORD AUTO CENTER, IN WHICH THEY DISCOVERED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME ON MARCH 21ST 2013. ON MARCH 22ND 2013, THE ENGINE COVER FELL OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED VEHICLE TO THE PREVIOUS FORD AUTO CENTER, THEY REPLACED WITH NEW ENGINE COVER. AS OF TODAY, THE VEHICLE IS AGAIN SHOWING HESITATION AT ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, RPM DASH METER NEEDLE BOUNCES PLUS MINUS 500RPMS DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. BREAKING IS NOT SMOOTH OR INSTANT, THE VEHICLE TENDS TO JUMP DURING BREAKING. AT COASTING SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE ALSO JUMPS. THESE ARE SIMILAR PROBLEMS THAT OCCURRED PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY SHUTTING OFF. THIS PROBLEM IS ALARMING AND AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS AROUND YOU, NOTABLY AT HIGH HIGHWAY SPEEDS. FORD HAS BEEN PRESENTED WITH THE ISSUE AND HAS CLAIMED THAT THE ISSUES ARE ALL UNRELATED, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF EACH TIME. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS DRIVING THIS MODEL, 2011 FORD FUSION SEL AWD.

We were driving and the power steering went completly out as discribed by other customers. I took the car to a Ford dealer in Barnwell Sc. Who told me the recall has never been repaired I called Ford because of the miles the dealer was told it was not under the recall despite the car being in for other recalls in the past. I spoke with someone in Manilla on a bad line that I could barely understand. She first told me the car had been serviced for the same issue back in Jan 5 2017 however the part had not been replaced. Despite a 10 year warranty on the fix it was over the mileage. Which it was over 150000 at the time of recall repair. She then tells me the fix was done and there was no mileage limit. So I repeatedly asked which is it to no avail. The unit was repaired at Dunlee Ford in Ohio 800-942-6305 back in 2017 but no parts were replaced.

The power steering failed while driving this vehicle. Our local Ford dealer said that recall expired a month ago. I called Ford customer service to get more information. I was told that recall #15S18 was repaired on July 29, 2015. Ford would not pay for repair unless a second safety recall was issued on the faulty repair completed. The repair only lasted 6 years and there is only 107000 on this vehicle.

After turning on my car, but before shifting to drive, the dashboard informed me that the Power Steering system had failed. I tried turning off the car and cranking it back up, to no avail. I called the Ford dealership in my area and they told me that there was a recall for this issue and they would take care of it. I made an appointment for the next day (Friday 6/18/2021) and took it in. I was forced to drive it to the dealership without power steering, because they informed me they did not offer towing services. They did not call me until Monday 6/21/2021 to tell me that the part is not covered under the recall and the warrantee had expired. They told me to call customer service, which I did. They informed me that the previous owner of the car had it inspected in 2015 and Ford did not find an issue regarding the recall # 15S18. They extended the warrantee on this part for 10 years from the date of purchase, which was May 11, 2011. My car is currently at the Ford dealership and cannot be safely driven until the power steering is fixed, which would cost over $1900.

THE POWER STEERING HAS SPORADICALLY FAILED TWICE WITHIN THE PAST MONTH WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED (ONCE AT A GAS STATION, ANOTHER WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT A STOP SIGN). THE INCIDENT WITH THE STOP SIGN ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND DRIFTED TO A CURB ACROSS THE STREET. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON RESTORES POWER TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN WHEN THE POWER FAILS.
