Summary of Complaint

WHILE IN PARK, RPMS SURGE AT 2000 UNTIL SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. WHILE DRIVING, BARELY TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR GAINS SPEED QUICKLY WITHOUT HAVING TO USE THE PEDALS, HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES THE ENTIRE TIME TO KEEP IT STEADY - ITS ACCELERATING BY ITSELF AND TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT TO KEEP IT STOPPED. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH 3 TIMES TODAY OUT OF THE BLUE, ONCE WHILE AT A RED LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKES THE RPMS RAN UP TO 3000 AND TRIED TO DRIVE THROUGH THE BRAKES, AND TWICE WHILE ON CITY STREETS IT ACCELERATED FROM 20 TO 50 IN SECONDS, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY MISS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHY MY MODEL VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL I DON'T KNOW, BECAUSE LOOKING AT EVERYTHING ONLINE REGARDING THE 05 TAURUS MY CAR HAS ALL THE SAME ISSUES, WHICH WEREN'T DISCLOSED TO ME UPON PURCHASE BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD NO IDEA. CURRENT MILEAGE 186K.

Summary of Complaint

WAS HEADING HOME FROM FISHING TO HAVE EASTER DINNER WITH THE FAMILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE GOING TO PASS A TRUCK ON THE EXPRESS WAY TO THE LEFT LANE, WHEN I WENT TO GIVE IT GAS TO GO AROUND HIM, I GOT NOTHING LIKE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL, RPMS WENT UP AND I STARTED SLOWING DOWN .NO NOISE NO NOTHING SO I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 2 HOURS WAITING FOR A TOW TO GET IT HOME. SINCE IT WAS EASTER SUNDAY I HAD NO WHERE TO TOW IT TOO. I'VE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND LOOKS LIKE A TORQUE CONVERTER NOT 100 PERCENT SURE UNTIL I DIG INTO IT. BUT I DID BUY THIS CAR USED AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM IN 2 YEARS, GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW I WAS 1600 MILES OVER THE LIMIT SO NO WARRANTY. I'M DAM WELL NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THIS AND ILL BE CALLING THE FINANCE COMPANY TO COME GET IT STILL MAKING PAYMENTS, CAUSE IF IT GOING TO COST ME 1800 TO FIX IT, NO WAY CARS ONLY WORTH 2500. *TR

Summary of Complaint

THIS PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED A BIT OVER A YEAR AGO. DATE ABOVE IS NOT EXACT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MECHANIC, MY HUSBAND DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO GO AWAY. I'VE NEVER RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF RECALL NOTICE ON THE VEHICLE. NOW I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 137K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IN NOVEMBER OF 2013, THE TRANSMISSION DIED. THIS PAST SUNDAY, ON THE WAY HOME FROM CHURCH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 4500 RPM'S WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR IN A RESIDENTIAL ZONE. IT TOOK 2 FEET ON THE BRAKES, HAD TO MAKE A QUICK TURN AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. I CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP US FIND A SOLUTION. *TR

Summary of Complaint

VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND KEPT GOING FASTER. BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A COTTON FIELD. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE ACCELERATION STUCK. TAPPING THE GAS PEDDLE WORKED THE FIRST TWO BUT NOT THE LAST TIME. IT KNOCKED A HOLE IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND DID SOMETHING TO THE BRAKE LINE. *TR

Summary of Complaint

AS I WAS ACCELERATING, AND GET TO AROUND 40 OR 45MPH, THE CAR WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND THE SPEED WOULD SUDDENLY INCREASE EVEN IF I WASN'T PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR. THEN I WOULD TRY TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AND IT WOULD BE JERKING AND WOULD COME TO A STOP FINALLY, BUT THE RPM WOULD BE TO OVER 4,000 OR EVEN 5,000. IT WOULD DO IT FOR A FEW MILES THEN SUDDENLY GO BACK TO RUNNING NORMAL. I ALSO NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING SINCE THE CAR STATED DOING THIS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND ALL THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH THE CAR WAS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY PLATES WERE COVERED IN GUNK AND THEY CLEANED THEM, AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY IDLE AIR INTAKE VALVE WHICH I HAD BOTH DONE. FROM TIME TO TIME THE CAR WILL STILL ACCELERATE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING, AND I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO EITHER BLOW THE ENGINE FROM THE HIGH RPM'S OR RUN INTO SOMEONE IF I CAN'T GET THE CAR SLOWED DOWN IN TIME. *TR

Summary of Complaint

THROTTLE STICKS AND THE ENGINE IDLES AS HIGH AS 2,500 RPM WITHOUT APPLYING ANY PRESSURE TO GAS, CAUSING THE CAR TO INCREASE ITS SPEED WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS. EVEN WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO STOP AND I MUST ALLOW ADDITIONAL ROOM TO STOP BECAUSE THE CAR IS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN WHILE I'M APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS OCCURS AT RANDOM AND APPROXIMATELY 1-3 TIMES DAILY. THE SEVERITY OF THE UNWARRANTED ACCELERATION SEEMS TO BECOME MORE OBTRUSIVE AS THE MILEAGE INCREASES. I'M DISAPPOINTED AND FRANKLY SHOCKED THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FAULTY ACCELERATOR, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THEY HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY MANY OTHER CONCERNED CONSUMES SUCH AS MYSELF. UNTIL THEN, I CAN ONLY HOPE THE BRAKES CAN CONTINUE TO OVERPOWER THE ACCELERATOR THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A MIND OF ITS OWN. *TR

Summary of Complaint

THE TRANSMISSION OF MY VEHICLE, WITHOUT WARNING OR PRIOR HISTORY OF FAILURE, ACTED LIKE I'D MOVED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT ON THE INTERSTATE. ENGINE WOULD REV, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. COASTED TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE OR MOVE THE VEHICLE TO A SAFER LOCATION. THERE ARE AT LEAST 150 PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AS ME BUT FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL DESPITE A CLEAR FAULT WITH THE TRANSMISSION FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. Summary of Complaint

MY 2005 FORD TAURUS ALL OF THE SUDDEN STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS OCTOBER 1, 2012. I WAS GOING 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STARTED REVVING UP EVEN AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I HAD TO JUMP UP ONTO A MEDIAN AT 65ISH MPH TO AVOID OTHER CARS. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND GRIND AS I TRIED TO STOP. I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. EVEN STOPPED THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO REV AT 8000 RPM. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. SINCE THEN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED FIVE MORE TIMES. I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR BRAKE REPAIRS AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE ACCELERATION AND SUGGESTED I REMOVE MY FLOOR MATS AS THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN JAMMED UNDER THE PEDAL. WHILE I KNOW THIS TO BE FALSE I NONETHELESS REMOVED THE FLOOR MATS AND THE CONDITION REMAINS. ANOTHER TERRIFYING INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS VISITING MY DAUGHTER. SHE LIVES OFF A WINDY DIRT ROAD HIGH ON A LEAF COVERED RIDGE. I USUALLY DON?T GO ANY FASTER THAN 15 MPH ON HER ROAD. THE CAR EXPERIENCED ANOTHER SUDDEN ACCELERATION AS I WAS TURNING A BEND. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE ON THE LEAVES AND I BOUNCED OFF A TREE STUMP AND ALMOST HIT MY DAUGHTER?S FIANC. AGAIN I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AND HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE LAST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I HAD TO MASH DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR TO BRING IT BACK TO IDLE. AT THIS POINT I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. I HAVE INCURRED REPLACEMENT BRAKE BILLS AND VARIOUS CAR DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF THESE INCIDENTS. THANKFULLY NO ONE HAS BEEN HURT. *TR

Summary of Complaint

AS I WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPEED UP ON ITS OWN. IT CONTINUED TO SPEED UP EVEN WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVEN WHILE I HAD THE BRAKES APPLIED, THE CAR WAS JERKING AS IF IT WAS GOING TO TAKE OFF. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING UP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR UP IT WAS OK FOR A FEW MINUTES, BUT THEN STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AGAIN. I PULLED OVER AGAIN, LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE, AND THEN STARTED THE CAR AGAIN. SHORTLY AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, THE ACCELERATION STARTED AGAIN. EVENTUALLY, THE ACCELERATION STARTED ACTING NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, BUT NOW WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN I LIGHTLY TAP THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATION STOPS. AROUND THE SAME TIME AS THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR, THE ENGINE REVS UP REALLY HIGH AND I HAVE TO LET IT RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL IT STOPS REVVING UP. *TR

Summary of Complaint

MY THROTTLE HAS BEGUN STICKING ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND THIS STARTED AT THE SAME TIME MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, MY ACCELERATOR WILL INCREASE ON ITS OWN UNTIL I LIGHTLY TAP THE GAS PEDAL A COUPLE OF TIMES. THIS ALSO HAPPENED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO (JULY 2011), BUT I HAD A REAR-END COLLISION (NOT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM) THAT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. AFTER THE GARAGE REPAIRED MY CAR, BOTH THROTTLE AND CRUISE CONTROL WERE WORKING FINE FOR THE NEXT NINE MONTHS, BUT NOW THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN. A LOCAL GARAGE HAS SAID THEY CAN FIND NO CAUSE. *TR

Summary of Complaint

I WAS DRIVING AND FELT THE ACCELERATOR PAD CLICK, THEN I NOTICED THAT MY SPEED WAS INCREASING. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I SWERVED DOWN A SIDE STREET AND PULL ON MY EMERGENCY BREAKS AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. IT BEGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND ACCELERATED ITSELF TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT MY THROTTLE CABLE WAS ERODED AND NEEDED A REPLACEMENT. I GOT A NEW THROTTLE CABLE. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, I FELT THE CLICK AGAIN AND I SAW MY SPEED GO UP AGAIN; THIS TIME, IT UNCLICKED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS TIME THAT THE TUBE IN WHICH THE THROTTLE CABLE IS INSERTED WAS FILLED WAS DEBRIS SO THAT CAUSED ANOTHER JAM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHARGE ME AGAIN FOR THIS SERVICE BUT IT LEADS TO ME SUSPECT IF THERE ARE FURTHER ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATOR ITSELF. *TR
