WHILE IN PARK, RPMS SURGE AT 2000 UNTIL SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH 3 TIMES TODAY OUT OF THE BLUE, ONCE WHILE AT A RED LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKES THE RPMS RAN UP TO 3000 AND TRIED TO DRIVE THROUGH THE BRAKES, AND TWICE WHILE ON CITY STREETS IT ACCELERATED FROM 20 TO 50 IN SECONDS, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY MISS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHY MY MODEL VIN ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL I DON'T KNOW, BECAUSE LOOKING AT EVERYTHING ONLINE REGARDING THE 05 TAURUS MY CAR HAS ALL THE SAME ISSUES, WHICH WEREN'T DISCLOSED TO ME UPON PURCHASE BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD NO IDEA. THIS PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED A BIT OVER A YEAR AGO. DATE ABOVE IS NOT EXACT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MECHANIC, MY HUSBAND DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO GO AWAY. I'VE NEVER RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF RECALL NOTICE ON THE VEHICLE. NOW I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 137K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IN NOVEMBER OF 2013, THE TRANSMISSION DIED. THIS PAST SUNDAY, ON THE WAY HOME FROM CHURCH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 4500 RPM'S WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR IN A RESIDENTIAL ZONE. AS I WAS ACCELERATING, AND GET TO AROUND 40 OR 45MPH, THE CAR WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND THE SPEED WOULD SUDDENLY INCREASE EVEN IF I WASN'T PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR. THROTTLE STICKS AND THE ENGINE IDLES AS HIGH AS 2,500 RPM WITHOUT APPLYING ANY PRESSURE TO GAS, CAUSING THE CAR TO INCREASE ITS SPEED WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS. MY 2005 FORD TAURUS ALL OF THE SUDDEN STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS OCTOBER 1, 2012. I WAS GOING 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STARTED REVVING UP EVEN AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I HAD TO JUMP UP ONTO A MEDIAN AT 65ISH MPH TO AVOID OTHER CARS. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND GRIND AS I TRIED TO STOP. I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. EVEN STOPPED THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO REV AT 8000 RPM. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. SINCE THEN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED FIVE MORE TIMES. I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR BRAKE REPAIRS AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE ACCELERATION AND SUGGESTED I REMOVE MY FLOOR MATS AS THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN JAMMED UNDER THE PEDAL. WHILE I KNOW THIS TO BE FALSE I NONETHELESS REMOVED THE FLOOR MATS AND THE CONDITION REMAINS. ANOTHER TERRIFYING INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS VISITING MY DAUGHTER. SHE LIVES OFF A WINDY DIRT ROAD HIGH ON A LEAF COVERED RIDGE. I USUALLY DON?T GO ANY FASTER THAN 15 MPH ON HER ROAD. THE CAR EXPERIENCED ANOTHER SUDDEN ACCELERATION AS I WAS TURNING A BEND. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE ON THE LEAVES AND I BOUNCED OFF A TREE STUMP AND ALMOST HIT MY DAUGHTER?S FIANC. AGAIN I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AND HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS TIME THAT THE TUBE IN WHICH THE THROTTLE CABLE IS INSERTED WAS FILLED WAS DEBRIS SO THAT CAUSED ANOTHER JAM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHARGE ME AGAIN FOR THIS SERVICE BUT IT LEADS TO ME SUSPECT IF THERE ARE FURTHER ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATOR ITSELF. *TR
