Summary of Complaint

12/18/96: THE TARAUS I WAS DRIVING WAS HIT IN THE SIDE BY ANOTHER CAR. I WAS THROWN INTO MY SHOULDER HARNESS, WHICH FUNCTIONS MORE AS A "NECK NOOSE". WITHIN 24 HOURS, I HAD SWELLING, BURNING, PAIN IN MY NECK AND SHOULDER WHERE I HAD COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE SHOULDER HARNESS. WHEN MY INJURY WAS ABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED, WHICH TOOK TWO YEARS (2), BEFORE THE "BLOOD FLOW" CHANGED ENOUGH TO BE DIAGNOSED ON A 3-PHASE BONE SCAN AT MAYO CLINIC, I LEARNED I HAD REFLEX SYMPATHETIC DYSTROPHY, ALSO KNOWN AS COMPLEX REGIONAL PAIN SYNDROME.(RSD & CRPS). BOTH ARE KNOWN TO BE THE HIGHEST ON THE MCGILL PAIN INDEX FOR "TYPES OF PAIN", AT LEVEL 42. CANCER IS 28, AND NO PAIN IS 0. WHEN I LEARNED THAT I HAD RSD AND THAT IT BEGAN AT MY NECK INJURY, I CONTACTED FORD'S LEGAL DEPARTMENT, TO ASK THAT THEY CHANGE MY SEAT BELT TO THE NEW DESIGN THEY IMPLEMENTED IN 1996 MODELS (RSD ONLY GOES INTO REMISSION, WHEN TREATABLE. FORD DIDN'T "REFUSE" TO CHANGE MY SEAT BELT, BUT MERELY "IGNORED ME". I SPOKE WITH AND FAXED CHRIS IN THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT. I ASKED THE VP OF FORD, MR. SHEELE, ON 7/11/03 TO MAKE THE SAME REPAIR, WHEN I TOLD HIM OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH SERVICE, QUALITY, AND REPAIR FROM FORD. I HAVE HEARD FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT WITH NO ACTION, HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER HEARD FROM MR. SCHEELE'S OFFICE, REGARDING MY SEAT BELT PROBLEM. FORD KNEW OF A PROBLEM WITH "WHERE" THE SEAT BELTS CROSSED NECKS, WHICH IS WHY THEY CHANGED THE DESIGN IN 1996! I WISH I'D KNOWN ABOUT THIS BEFORE MY ACCIDENT, SO THAT I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A SAVER EUROPEAN CAR. NOW, I HAVE A HIGH LEVEL OF PAIN FOR LIFE, CALLED RSD, WHICH TRAVELS. MY LIFE HAS BEEN ON "HOLD" SINCE 12/18/96 AND I CANNOT "PLAN" ANYTHING. I MUST CARRY MY "MEDICAL RECORDS" WITH ME ANYWHERE I GO, BECUASE OF THE NATURE OF MY TREATMENT, AND THE DRUGS INVOLVED. WWW.RSDSA.ORG TO "SEE" WHAT I LOOKED LIKE, AND HOW I HURT. 1988-1995 SEAT BELTS ARE OF THE SAME DEFECTIVE DESIGN.*AK

Summary of Complaint

TRANSMISSION FAILURE @ 83,000 MILES, COMMON WITH FORD TARAUS VEHICLES. FORD WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR FOR 14 DAYS, AT ANY OF THE 5 DEALERSHIPS LOCAL TO CHARLOTTE. THE REPAIRED TRANSMISSION FAILED. THEN THE FORD WARRANTIED TRANSMISSION, REPLACED 7/11/03, FAILED 400 MILES LATER (36,000 MILE WARRANTY), BECAUSE THE FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT! QUALITY OF THE OEM PRODUCT IS ACUTELY IN QUESTION, WHILE WORKMANSHIP AND SERVICE ARE HORRIBLE. INCIDENT DATE IS THE FIRST TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *AK

VIN: 1FALP52U4SA****

Summary of Complaint

SPEEDOMETER FAILED TWICE IN FOUR YEARS. THE NEEDLE SWINGS WILDLY BACK AND FORTH, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 45 MPH. THE ORIGINAL UNIT FAILED AT 35,000 MILES (26 MONTHS). A NEW UNIT WAS INSTALLED IN JANUARY, 1998 (43,000 MILES). IT TOO FAILED APPROXIMATELY 24 MONTHS LATER. NOW I NEED A THIRD SPEEDOMETER. THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY IS FOR TWELVE MONTHS. FORD TELLS ME THAT THE SPEEDO UNIT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. IT MUST BE REPLACED WITH A BRAND NEW UNIT AT A COST OF NEARLY $700 ($500 FOR THE PART, $126 FOR LABOR, PLUS 6% STATE SALES TAX). I CANNOT SPEND $700 KNOWING THAT THIS PART WILL LIKELY FAIL IN TWO YEARS. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL, OR PROVIDE A LIFETIME WARRANTY. SPEEDOMETERS SHOULD NOT BREAK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. BY NOT KNOWING THE SPEED AT WHICH I AM TRAVELING, I AM PUTTING MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK. IN ADDITION, THIS IS A DRIVER DISTRACTION BECAUSE THE DRIVER IS CONSTANTLY PREOCCUPIED WITH TRYING TO DETERMINE HIS SPEED. THIS ALSO PUTS LIVES AT RISK SIMILAR TO TALKING ON CELL PHONES AND PLAYING WITH THE RADIO. THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ISSUE WITH MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY ALWAYS PROVIDE EXCELLENT SERVICE. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *AK

Summary of Complaint

THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY TAURUS JUMPS AROUN ONCE I HIT ABOUT 50 MPH. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW FAST I AM TRAVELLING DOWN THE FREEWAY. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT COST TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER HAS A DEFECTIVE PART WHICH HAS FAILED FOR MANY MORE PEOPLE THAN I. I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM WHILE SEARCHING THE INTERNET.
