I WENT TO THE SAM SWOPE DEALERSHIP AT 1 SWOPE AUTOCENTER DR, LOUISVILLE, KY 40299 WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO THEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN 2008 ACCORDS AND THAT THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND GET BACK TO ME. I was driving down the highway at 60mph when suddenly the car threw itself in reverse! No one was behind me, but I had to quickly brake and back into the shoulder and put it in “Park”. The engine rattles loudly for about 3 seconds on could start-up. The componet that is failing is the VTC ACTUATOR. This problem is casuing the engine light to go on. Also, I found out that the VTC Actuator on honda accord is a common failure. This is not a coincidence, it is a manufacture defect. In addition, it is putting my life in danger while it may cause engine failure. The VTC actuator rattles have been confirmed by independent mechanic.

The contact owned a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 67 mph, a tractor-trailer crashed into the contact's driver side causing the vehicle to flip 5 - 6 times before landing in a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's daughter was transported to the hospital by ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard. The contact's insurance company had not inspected the vehicle to deem it totaled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. However, the manufacturer requested the contact's insurance company for a technical report of the accident. The failure mileage was approximately 192,000.

I'M HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH A HONDA AS I'VE HEARD EXCELLENT THINGS ABOUT HONDA CARS WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED MY ACCORD. FORTUNATELY I MADE IT TO MY LOCATION PARKED MY CAR AND IT COMPLETELY DIED. I DIDN'T OPEN MY HOOD AND STARTED CHECKING MY BATTERY AND MY ALTERNATOR ETC. I CONFIRMED MY BATTERY WAS FINE AND THAT MY ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED. I THEN NOTICE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE ALTERNATOR.
