TAKATA RECALLI BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AROUND THE END OF SUMMER 2016 THE CAR IS IN GOOD CONDITION BUT HAS APPROX. 210,000 MILES ON IT. I USED THE PASSENGER VISOR 4/17/17 AND NOW IT WONT STAY UP AND I SEE ITS SPLIT. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE HOW TO FIX IT AND I CAME ACROSS THE CLASS ACTION SUIT IN REGARDS TO THE VISOR. I EMAILED HONDA WHO CALLED AND TOLD ME THE CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE AND IT WILL COST ME APPROX. $180 TO FIX. ITS REALLY ANNOYING AND HAMPERS THE VIEW WITH IT LAYING DOWN LIKE THAT. I FEEL THEY SHOULD STILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE.

IN 2011, MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR CRACKED/SPLIT AND WAS HANGING HALFWAY, AFFECTING MY VIEW. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED AT NO CHARGE OCTOBER 24 2011. NOT EVEN A WEEK AGO, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE NEW DRIVER SIDE VISOR. I CALLED HONDA, TOOK IT TO THEM TODAY (08/15/2013). THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME 95 DOLLARS!!!! REALLY?!!! THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE VISORS. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. I CALLED THE HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. THE VISOR I GOT REPLACE ONLY HAD A 12,000 MILE OR ONE YEAR WARRANTY. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I TOOK THIS SEAT APART TO FIX A WOBBLE. NOW I THINK THERE MIGHT BE A LARGER SAFETY CONCERN WITH THESE SEATS. PROBLEM: THE REAR HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT BAR ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAS YIELDED TO FAILURE ALONG A WELD. THIS BAR IS USED FOR SYNCHRONIZING THE SEAT HEIGHT ON THE REMOTE SIDE AND SENDING SIDE. THE IGNITION AND LOCK COMPONENTS HAVE WORN OUT.THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS COMPLETELY BROKEN AND THE IGNITION IS HAVING PROBLEMS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS NOT STANDARD HONDA WORKMANSHIP, AND THE DEALER SUGGESTS HAVING THE ENTIRE CAR REKEYED WHICH COSTS ABOUT THE SAME AS THE CAR IS WORTH. THIS IS DEFINITELY AN ISSUE WITH A FAULTY COMPONENT TO BEGIN WITH.

THE AIRBAG CODE I GET WHEN I SCAN THE VEHICLE IS A "CODE 33-10 OPEN IN THE LEFT SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FIRST INFLATOR." AIRBAGS IN VEHICLES SHOULD NOT GO BAD FOR NO REASON ESPECIALLY CURTAIN AIRBAGS. THIS AIRBAG WENT BAD (DEFECTIVE). I WENT ONLINE AND I SAW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS I DO ON HONDA VEHICLES. I WAS ABOUT TO SELL MY CAR AND NOW THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME, THEN I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SELL MY VEHICLE. MY 2009 HONDA CIVIC HAD 115,000 MILES WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT FIRST CAME ON IN THE DASH. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG AND THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. THE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE AIR BAG SENSOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED THE OWNER RETAINED OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS WITH THE SETTLEMENT AMOUNT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. 2009 HONDA CIVIC NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT. IN FEB 2019 HE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. FRONT AIRBAGS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED UNDER TAKITA RECALL. I WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER SEAT SIDE AIRBAG HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR "A PART THAT JUST FAILS OVER TIME" AND WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I PAID $1100 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND I FEAR IT IS NOW THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG THAT HAS FAILED AND I WILL HAVE TO PUT ANOTHER $1100 INTO A CAR FOR FAILURE OF A SAFETY PART. THE CAR HAS 112,000 MILES AND I JUST PAID AN ADDITIONAL $1400 FOR REAR BREAKS, SHOCKS, ETC., WHICH I CONSIDER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I COULD HAVE PUT $3600 DOWN ON A NEW CAR. NOW I AM ALREADY INTO THIS CAR FOR $2500 AND FIXING THE AIRBAG IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. I WOULD BE CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SIDE AIRBAG ISSUES WITH HONDA VEHICLES. ALSO, THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF THE VEHICLE! STARTED PEELING 6 MONTHS AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP SO HONDA NOT RESPONSIBLE.

MY 2009 CIVIC HAS A PROBLEM THAT HAS AFFECTED MANY OTHER EIGHTH GENERATION CIVICS: THE A/C RELAY IS FAULTY AND IS OF A POOR DESIGN AND/OR MANUFACTURE. THE A/C RELAY IS KNOWN TO FAIL VERY PREMATURELY AND CAUSE THE COMPRESSOR FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER TO SPIN/CYCLE CONTINUOUSLY OR STAY ON (EVEN WHEN THE A/C IS NOT TURNED ON), AND THUS CAUSE THE COMPRESSOR TO HEAT UP TREMENDOUSLY AND FAIL, WHICH CAUSES MECHANICAL DAMAGE INSIDE THE COOLING SYSTEM. THERE ARE COUNTLESS STORIES ONLINE, IN CAR FORUMS, AND AT HONDA DEALERSHIPS AND REPAIR SHOPS TO BACK THIS ASSERTION. NOT ONLY DOES THIS SUBSTANDARD A/C RELAY CAUSE EXPENSIVE DAMAGE THAT IS NOT EASILY REPAIRED (HOW DOES A 4 HOUR TEAR-DOWN AND REASSEMBLY SOUND?), BUT IT REPRESENTS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD SINCE THE RELAY IS FAULTY AND MAY CAUSE ISSUES NOT ONLY WITH THE REST OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (INCLUDING THE FUSE BOX WHERE IT IS LOCATED) BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF THE TREMENDOUS HEAT THAT A FAULTY RELAY GENERATES WHEN IT CAUSES THE COMPRESSOR TO CONTINUOUSLY CYCLE. THE METAL OF THE COMPRESSOR ACTUALLY CHANGED COLOR WHEN IT CONTINUOUSLY CYCLED ON MY CAR, AND IS A TELLTALE SIGN OF THIS EVER COMMON FAILURE. HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT HAS NOT SEEN FIT TO ADDRESS IT THOUGH TSBS/RECALLS FOR OTHER MODELS HAVE BEEN ISSUED.
