ON 9/16/15 THE BRAKES ON MY 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS FAILED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR TO STOP WITH EXCESSIVE PUMPING OF THE BRAKES. ON 9/16/15 I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO JIM ELLIS HYUNDAI TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE CAR AND COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE I HAD EXPERIENCED EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR AND DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND NOW THE BRAKES SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE. MY CAR HAS 115,561 MILES. THIS IS THE SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. ON 04/30/15, I BROUGHT IN THE CAR FOR TWO RECALLS, ONE THAT INCLUDED A BRAKE FLUID FLUSH. A MONTH LATER, I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THAT CAUSED ME TO LOSE BRAKE PRESSURE.AFTER A FEW DAYS THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED. THE FIRST OCCASION HAPPENED ON AUGUST 7, 2013, BUT THE PROBLEM CORRECTED ITSELF AND THE BRAKES SEEMED FINE UNTIL OCTOBER 20, 2013, WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I WERE VACATIONING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTH CAROLINA, APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS FROM OUR HOME. AGAIN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING THE VEHICLE. WE MADE IT HOME SAFELY, BUT THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. AFTER SEEING INFORMATION ONLINE ABOUT A RECALL OF THE GENESIS RELATED TO THE BRAKES, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN GOLDSBORO, NC, ON OCTOBER 23, AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID, WHICH FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THEY TOLD US THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BASED ON THE HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM, WE DID NOT AGREE WITH THAT DIAGNOSIS AND, ON OCTOBER 24, TOOK THE GENESIS TO JOHNSON HYUNDAI IN RALEIGH, NC, WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC MODULE FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE HYUNDAI COMPANY TOLD US THEY ARE CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 GENESIS BUT THE INVESTIGATION IS NOT FAR ENOUGH ALONG TO DETERMINE IF A RECALL WILL BE MADE. FURTHER, THAT WE SHOULD HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE (OVER $2100) AND IF A RECALL IS MADE, WE WOULD BE REIMBURSED. JOHNSON HYUNDAI IS TRYING TO HELP US FIND A RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. HE INDICATED THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX IT MONDAY, BUT THAT IF THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND IT WAS RUNNING OK, IT MAY NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. I TOLD HIM THAT I NEED TO BE DURHAM , NC ON MONDAY. HE INDICATED THAT IF IT HAPPEN AGAIN. TO TURN OFF AND RESTART AND IT SHOULD RESET. ON MY WAY BACK FROM INDIANA TO NORTH CAROLINA I STAYED IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE. A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO THE BRAKES ON MY 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND GOT THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL EVENTUALLY REGAINED PRESSURE AND BEGAN FUNCTIONING AGAIN. OVER THE NEXT 5-6 MONTHS THE BRAKES PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE EACH TIME I DROVE THE CAR. I WAS CONSISTENTLY HAVING TO PUMP THE PEDAL AND NEEDED TO KEEP GIVING MYSELF MORE AND MORE DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THROUGHOUT THIS PERIOD THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS AND OTHER SENSORS ON THE CAR WOULD STOP FUNCTIONING ENTIRELY FOR PERIODS OF TIME. THOSE LIGHTS AND SENSORS EVENTUALLY QUIT AND NEVER TURNED BACK ON. AT THIS POINT VEHICLE BRAKES WERE GETTING WORSE AND WORSE AND IT HAD NO FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHTS SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR FROM FOR REPAIRS. THEY DOCUMENTED AND DESCRIBED SOME SORT OF CONTAMINATION IN THE BRAKE FLUID THAT HAD TURNED IT INTO A WHITE GOOEY SUBSTANCE AND THAT FLUID CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND WORE COMPLETELY THROUGH THE ABS MODULE. COINCIDENTALLY THAT IS THE EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION THAT WAS GIVEN FOR THE RECALLS IN 2013 THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR (NHTSA CAMPAIGN 13V489000). THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID HAVE THOSE 2013 RECALL REPAIRS MADE AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES BUT THE SAME ISSUES THAT CAUSED THE FIRST RECALL ARE OBVIOUSLY OCCURRING AGAIN WITH THE CAR CURRENTLY AT ABOUT 120,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER DEALER WANTS $2500 TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE AND TO RESET THE COMPUTER WHICH IS OVER HALF OF THE BLUE BOOK VALUE. FURTHER, THE REPLACEMENT OF BULBS THRU OUT THE VEHICLE HAS SOLELY BEEN DONE AT THE DEALER FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FOG LIGHTS NEEDS TO BE DONE BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC.
