The DAB module assembly (air bag system) driver's side has to be replaced due to failure. Only warning was a creaking sound from the steering column when turning. Although I have an extended warranty, never been in an accident, and the car is only 6 years old with 44,000 miles, the extended warranty for the air bags is only for 5 years. The cost to replace the DAB is over $900.00. I feel strongly that Hyundai should cover the cost.

ESC failed. I was attempting to make a left turn from a stopped position at a typical intersection. I lost control of the vehicle as it started to fishtail once I began the turn. I believe the faulty ESC poises a lot more risk that just a fire. From other reports on genesis forums by consumers like me, this problem with Hyundai's ESC seems to be a common and reoccurring problem. The rear passenger door will not open from inside or from outside of the vehicle. The door lock mechanism has failed internally while the door was shut. This causes a safety issue as passengers are not able to exit the vehicle in an emergency event. Worse, a child car seat is not able to be accessed as the door will not open. There are not warning lights in the vehicle to alert you that the door lock/handle mechanism has failed. Hyundai/Genesis will not repair the defective components under warranty, as they consider it a wear item. As the door will not open it is extremely difficult to repair this issue. The door panel has to be cut off which renders it destroyed. The door lock/latch mechanism has failed at 60000 miles and with a vehicle that is 6 years old. This is a huge safety issue as people will become trapped in a crash, which can lead to injury and loss of life.

There is an electrical issue that could malfunction internally and cause an electrical short, potentially resulting in an engine compartment fire. The front bulb for the daylight running lamps/ lane changing blinker has been consistently stopped working and/or blown out. The dealer where I purchased the vehicle has worked on the vehicle a minimum of six times, changing the electrical harnesses (among other things) with no success. When looking up this issue on the internet, other owners have reported this problem with the 2015 model and older Hyundai Genesis. Hyundai did changed the daylight running lights in 2016. On a few occasions (3 times), the headlights turned off at night which may or may not be related. I have another appointment in ten days to address the situation once again.

THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DROVE AFTER THE TECHNICIAN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE; STILL UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TWICE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SEEN AT THE DEALER OVER 10 TIMES. THE CONTACT FEELS UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V575000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS MENTIONED AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
