ESC failed. I was attempting to make a left turn from a stopped position at a typical intersection. I lost control of the vehicle as it started to fishtail once I began the turn. Brakes did not respond and I ended up hitting the curb on the outer lane with both front and rear tires. Side curtain and passenger seat airbags deployed. Vehicle is now a total loss. I believe the faulty ESC poises a lot more risk that just a fire. From other reports on genesis forums by consumers like me, this problem with Hyundai's ESC seems to be a common and reoccurring problem. Recall should be updated to include that ESC may fail and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive.

VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT UP TO THE NEXT GEAR AND AND STARTED ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT BUT FAILING EVERY TIME AS IT PASSED 2000 RPMS. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH LIGHTS IN AUTOMATIC MODE, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE DASH WILL INDICATE THE LIGHTS MODE HAS CHANGED, BEFORE THE LIGHTS WILL TURN BACK ON. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES TYPICALLY AT NIGHT ALONG RURAL HIGHWAYS BUT HAS OCCURRED ALONG LIT STREETS AS WELL. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE SIMPLY DRIVING ALONG A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD AS WELL AS WHEN TURNING OR SWITCHING FROM BRIGHTS TO DIMS. THIS SAFETY HAZARD HAS FORTUNATELY NOT YET RESULTED IN LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO LACK OF AWARENESS REGARDING POSITION ON THE ROAD AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CODE MALFUNCTION AND PLAN TO REPLACE IT UNDER WARRENTY. WHILE GRADUALLY ACCELERATING FROM 20 THROUGH 40 MILES AN HOUR, THE ENGINE WILL REV TO APPROXIMATELY 6000 RPM. EVEN THOUGH I'VE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TWICE, THEY'VE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANY DEFECT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY DEFECT. I THINK, LIKELY SECONDARY TO SOME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE DEALER AND FACTORY SAY THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. UNLESS THEY HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT EVEN IF THEY TOOK THE CAR ON A SIX-MONTH TEST DRIVE, IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AT ALL. WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, HOWEVER, IT IS TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS.
