I experienced extremely high revving at idle(about 1500 rpm to 1750 rpm). I also experienced a dangerous loss of acceleration when trying to accelerate. I would put the accelerator to the floor and it would take about 10-15 seconds to reach a safe speed on a highway on ramp. Additionally I am consuming about 1/2 quart of oil per week. I change my oil faithfully every 3-4k miles and have documentation to prove it. My oil was down 2 1/2 qts at one point which I discovered by accident via my mechanic. There was no indication of this with the low oil indicator light. I only discovered this when my check engine light came on and my mechanic investigated the code.

ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE TURNING ON. THE CAR LOSES POWER STEERING. THE CAR WILL AT TIMES NOT TURN ON. THIS HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR. HYUNDAI CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. MY SONATA HAS STARTED STALLING AND SHUTTING DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPED WAS DEC 12TH. I JUST FINISHED ACCELERATING FROM ABOUT 35MPH TO 60MPH. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED ON DEC. 16TH WHILE TRAVELING AT A CONSTANT 30MPH. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE, EXCEPT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHAKE OR CREATE A LOUD NOISE BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN. MILEAGE WAS AT 75980. TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 20'S. I TOOK THE CAR DO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WAS DEC 29TH. I WAS TRAVELING AT 20MPH AND COASTING TO A STOPLIGHT. IT WAS 19 DEG OUTSIDE AND THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 76800. SO FAR THE CAR HAS NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE WEATHER IS ABOVE FREEZING. LOWER TEMPS MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM BUT NOT LIKELY TO BE THE PRIMARY CAUSE. IN ALL CASES THE CAR WAS AT OPERATING TEMP AND WAS RUNNING FOR MORE THEN 30 MIN. IT HAS NOT YET SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING. ONLY MAINTAINING SPEED OR COASTING. ABOUT A TWO MONTHS AGO THE DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A CLAIMED RECALL. THE ISSUE STARTED ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS LATER THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I DID FIND SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS WHILE SEARCHING.

DASHBOARD LIGHTS, RADIO, POWERS WINDOWS STILL WORKED. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAITED IN MY CAR BLOCKING ONE LANE OF TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES A PASSERBY PUSHED MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AT THIS TIME I NOTICED IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER AND THE BRAKES STARTED TO LOCK UP. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WAITED FOR THE TOW TRUCK. WHILE WAITING I MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RE-START THE CAR. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE CAR RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE 3 BLOCKS HOME. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE AND NO ERROR CODES SHOWED UP. THERE WERE ALSO NO ERROR COEDS IN THE LOG BUT IF THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING SHOULD BE IN THE LOG. I'M EXTREMELY NERVOUS TO DRIVE THINKING THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN IN A MORE DIRE SITUATION (LIKE ON THE FREEWAY). I SEE OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THIS SAME SITUATION AND AM CONCERNED FOR MINE AND MY PASSENGERS' SAFETY.
