THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF 1ST GEAR. IT'S DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, RED LIGHTS UPHILL. MECHANICS SAY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS MODEL. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED, AND WHILE THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIX IT UNDER THE WARRANTY (WHICH AT THE TIME IT WAS STILL UNDER). IN VARIOUS JEEP FORUMS, I'VE SEEN OTHER USERS COMPLAIN OF THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. AT ONE POINT THERE WAS TALK OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT - BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE IS UNDOUBTEDLY DATA AROUND THIS. LOOK AT HOW MANY JEEP ACCIDENTS HAPPEN WITHIN A FEW SECONDS OF STARTING (FROM A STOP SIGN, LIGHT, UP-HILL, ETC). I BET MOST ACCIDENTS HAPPEN FROM BEHIND, OR FROM THE SIDE (WHILE MERGING).

I'VE TAKEN MY JEEP TO 3+ GARAGES TO REMEDY THE ISSUE, AND THEY'RE ALL LEFT SCRATCHING THEIR HEADS BECAUSE THE SYSTEM HAS WIPED EVERY CODE THAT WAS THROWN, AND EVERYTHING THEY TRY DOES NOT HELP MATTERS - NONE OF THEM KNOW WHAT TO DO ASIDE FROM GUESSING AND REPLACING PARTS. THE LAST GARAGE I WENT TO RESEARCHED THE ISSUE, AS DID I, AND THERE ARE COUNTLESS FORUMS WITH THESE COMPLAINTS ABOUT JEEPS. FURTHERMORE, A LOT GO ON TO SAY THEY REPLACED THIS, THAT, AND THE OTHER AND THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE STARTING UP AGAIN, AND THEY AND THEIR MECHANICS ARE ALSO AT A LOSS. THIS HAS BEEN ABOUT 2 YEARS OF RESEARCHING, GARAGE WORK, AND AN INABILITY TO TAKE THE VEHICLE LONG DISTANCES OR HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE MY BROTHER'S 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT VEHICLE TO ME AS HE PASSED FROM CANCER. TO DATE I HAVE FILLED THE CAR 3X AND EVERY TIME I GET A GAS GUSHER COMING OUT OF THE TANK. THE LAST TIME I WAS EXTRA CAREFUL AND STILL ENDED UP GETTING GAS ALL OVER THE CAR AND MYSELF. NOW I TRY TO ESTIMATE GALLONS SO IT DOESN'T SPRAY OUT AND I STAND OFF TO THE SIDE. 600.00 IS A LOT OF MONEY TO SPEND FOR A NEW FUEL NECK REPLACEMENT. OBVIOUSLY NOT EVERYONE IS REPORTING THIS AS THEY ARE TRYING TO FIX IT THEMSELVES. TRY GOOGLING THIS ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION, ALTHOUGH GAS ON THE OUTSIDE DISSIPATES QUITE QUICKLY. ONE SPARK AND THE GAS STATION COULD BE TOAST. I AM VERY LEERY OF CHRYSLER & DODGE GAS TANKS, THANKFULLY MY MAGNUM WHICH STARTED ACTING UP HAD A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE FUEL TANK, WHICH DODGE IS NOT VERY QUICK TO POINT OUT. MY MAGNUM JUST STARTED DYING AFTER IT WAS FILLED UP, FIXED NOW I HOPE. HOPING YOU CAN COME UP WITH A RE-CALL FOR THESE JEEPS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FUELING UP ISSUES.
