Summary of Complaint

SIGNIFICANT LAG IN TRANSMISSION GOING FROM STOP TO EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE (3 - 5 SECONDS). CAR CAN ROLL BACKWARD WHILE WAITING FOR GEAR TO ENGAGE, AND WILL REV AND THEN JERK HARSHLY INTO GEAR. ALSO WILL JERK WHEN SHIFTING WHILE ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VEHICLE HAD UNDER 25,000 MILES ON IT WHEN SYMPTOMS STARTED. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND GOT APPROVAL FOR NEW TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY VERY QUICKLY, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR MAZDA. SAW MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA WEBSITE.

Summary of Complaint

FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW COMPLETELY SHATTERED WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. NO APPARENT ROCK OR DEBRIS HIT THE WINDOW BEFORE THE GLASS COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED. A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AS THE GLASS SHATTERED FROM THE CENTER. UNSURE AS TO LONGEVITY / DURABILITY OF THE MAZDA OEM GLASS WINDOWS AS CAR MODEL IS RELATIVELY NEW. SO FAR HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THE OTHER WINDOWS OF THE CAR. THE TEMPERED GLASS, HOWEVER, DID SHATTER AS CORRECTLY DESIGNED, NO INJURIES.

PURCHASED NEW 2016 MADACX5 IN APRIL 2015. WIFE WAS PULLING INTO THE GARAGE AND WAS ABOUT STOPPED WHEN IT LUNGED FORWARD STRIKING THE BACK WALL OF THE GARAGE. CAR WAS MOVING AT LESS THAN A MILE PER HOUR WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE.DAMAGE DONE TO VEHICLE AND GARAGE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHO KEPT THE VEHICLE AND DROVE AND MONITORED IT FOR A WEEK. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. MAZDA TOLD ME TO RETURN MY LOANER AND PICK UP MY VEHICLE. I TOLD THEM IT WAS UNSAFE. THEY WILL GIVE ME A DEAL ON A NEW VEHICLE. I WAS OUTSIDE WHEN MY WIFE ENTERED THE GARAGE AND WITNESSED THE INCIDENT.

THE FOLLOWING WARNING AND WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN AROUND 34,980 MILES ON MY 2016.5 MAZDA CX-5 GRAND TOURING 2.5L SKYACTIV-G WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE: MASTER WARNING LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POWER STEERING, KEYLESS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT MALFUNCTION, FORWARD SCBS DISABLED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TCS/DSC INDICATOR LIGHT, TCS OFF INDICATOR LIGHT, BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) OFF INDICATION, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, ABS WARNING LIGHT, ELECTRIC BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, AIR BAG/FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, LED HEADLIGHT WARNING LIGHT, AND THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN OFF. USING THE LEFT BLINKER WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLES POWER TO RESTART AND YES, WHILE DRIVING! THIS STARTED NOVEMBER 14, 2020 AND WHEN I NOTIFIED MAZDA, THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED AND A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE LIGHT WERE NO LONGER THERE. THIS OCCURRED AGAIN DECEMBER 15, 2020 AND MARCH 5, 2021 WHEN I DECIDED MAZDA NEEDS TO RUN A DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE CLEARLY SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. MY DEALERSHIP INSISTED IT WAS MY BATTERY (BASICALLY THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT NOT ON) AND MY REAR BRAKE PADS. THEN WHEN THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE, THEY SAID CORROSION NEEDED TO BE CLEANED WHICH WAS NOT SHOWN IN THE VEHICLE INSPECTION VIDEO. ALSO, MY CAR WAS JUST SERVICED AT MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP JULY 2020 WITH 33,706 MILES. SEPTEMBER 2020 MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I RETURNED TO A LARGE CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE. AROUND 25,000 THE TIRED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, NOW AT 36,666 MILES TIRE THREAD DEPTH IS IN THE YELLOW' MY VEHICLE ALIGNMENT HAS ZERO ISSUES AND MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP IS THE ONLY ONE WHO ROTATES THE TIRES (OR SUPPOSE TO).

THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2016 MAZDA CX-5 STARTED ACTING STRANGE A FEW WEEKS AGO. AT FIRST IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AFTER STARTING THE CAR, BUT WOULD DO SO AFTER A COUPLE OF RESTARTS. THEN IT STARTED ENGAGING SLIGHTLY WHILE DRIVING, WITH NO INDICATIONS. STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE A FEW TIMES WOULD USUALLY RELEASE IT. A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THIS HAPPENED AND THE BRAKE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AFTER SEVERAL RESTARTS AND I WAS GOING TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT DISENGAGED AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES. MY TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS TRIGGERED ON WHEN I DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 40 MPH. I STOPPED AT A PARKING LOT AND I NOTICED THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL WAS LITERALLY SMOKING. MY LOCAL SHOP REPLACED THE ROTOR AND PADS, HOWEVER, THE OVERHEAT PROBLEM KEPT SHOWING UP ON THAT RIGHT REAR SIDE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PARKING BRAKE DRAGGING FOR 2016 CX5. SO I STOPPED USING THE PARKING BRAKE AND THE OVERHEATING PROBLEM WAS GONE. HOWEVER, THE PARKING BRAKE IS STILL DEFECTIVE AND CAUSES OVERHEAT IF USED.

I HAVE TRIED SINCE FEB 2020 TO GET MY #20V-063 HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT PER THE RECALL ISSUED AND THE FITGERALD MAZDA IN ANNAPOLIS MD TOLD ME SINCE THEN THAT THEY COULDN'T GET THE PARTS FROM MAZDA. I TRIED TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT AGAIN TO HAVE THIS FIXED ON 11/11/20 - AN APPOINTMENT THEY ACCEPTED ONLY TO BE TOLD ONCE I GOT THERE AFTER THE INSPECTION THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND CANNOT GET THE PARTS FROM MAZDA. I WAS ONE OF THE INITIAL CUSTOMERS TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND RECEIVED A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACEMENT AND NOT SIX MONTHS LATER, THE OTHER SIDE WENT OUT. I UNDERSTAND COVID LIMITATIONS BUT MAZDA NEEDS TO PROVIDE THE PARTS TO COMPLY WITH THIS RECALL CORRECT?

SHE HAD INITIALLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO HERTRICH'S CAPITOL MAZDA(1127 S DUPONT HWY, DOVER, DE 19901) WHERE THEY REFERRED HER TO THE TOYA TIRE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 40 MPH ON A STATE ROAD, MY TPMS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A SIMPLE TIRE PRESSURE ISSUE, BUT THEN I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING. I STOPPED MY CAR AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY REAR RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) WHEEL. I PROMPTLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC AND THEY INFORMED ME THE CALIPER REMAINED ENGAGED AND MY ROTORS WERE OVERHEATING. THEY TRIED CONTACTING MAZDA DEALERSHIPS AND 3RD PARTY SOURCES FOR EITHER NEW OR REBUILT CALIPER BUT THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK AND ON BACKORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED DATE WHEN IT WOULD BE REPLENISHED. MY CAR IS STILL UNREPAIRED AND I CANNOT DRIVE IT AS THE EXCESSIVE HEATING OF THE ROTOR COULD DISABLE MY BRAKING ABILITY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH OTHER CX-5 MODELS.
