WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 40 MPH ON A STATE ROAD, MY TPMS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A SIMPLE TIRE PRESSURE ISSUE, BUT THEN I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING. I STOPPED MY CAR AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY REAR RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) WHEEL. I PROMPTLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC AND THEY INFORMED ME THE CALIPER REMAINED ENGAGED AND MY ROTORS WERE OVERHEATING. THEY TRIED CONTACTING MAZDA DEALERSHIPS AND 3RD PARTY SOURCES FOR EITHER NEW OR REBUILT CALIPER BUT THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK AND ON BACKORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED DATE WHEN IT WOULD BE REPLENISHED. MY CAR IS STILL UNREPAIRED AND I CANNOT DRIVE IT AS THE EXCESSIVE HEATING OF THE ROTOR COULD DISABLE MY BRAKING ABILITY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH OTHER CX-5 MODELS.

IN AUGUST 2016, I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2016 MAZDA CX-5 (DEALERSHIP: WELLESLEY MAZDA). UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR HAD ISSUES RELATED TO MY BRAKES. ON DECEMBER 08, 2017, THE BRAKES OF MY RIGHT REAR TIRE LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A CITY STREET (35MPH ZONE) CAUSING THEM TO OVERHEAT TO THE POINT WHERE THE BRAKE DISC GOT RED HOT AND SMOKED UP, INCREASING THE RISK OF MY TIRES BLOWING OUT/CATCHING FIRE DUE TO THE HEAT GENERATED BY FRICTION. IN ADDITION TO THIS BEING A SAFETY RISK FOR MYSELF AND OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD, THIS WAS EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT. MY CAR WAS IN NO CONDITION TO BE DRIVEN AND I WAS STRANDED ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE OCCURED. I HAD A SIMILAR COMPLAINT IN AUGUST 2017 WHERE THE LEFT WHEEL LOCKED INVOLUNTARILY WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS ABLE TO NOTICE THE SMOKE BEFORE THINGS GOT WORSE AND THAT THIS DID NOT CAUSE A COLLISION. WELLESLEY MAZDA REPLACED THE CALIPERS, BRAKE DISC ETC. ONLY FOR THAT PARTICULAR TIRE, DESPITE MY REPEATED REQUESTS TO REPLACE THOSE FOR ALL THE TIRES OR FOR AT LEAST THAT AXLE. MY CAR HAS ONLY RUN ~8,000 MILES, I AM REGULAR WITH MY CAR'S MAINTENANCE AND MY LAST SERVICE WAS ON 12/04/2017. MAZDA IS TELLING ME NOW THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CALIPERS AND THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE THIS ISSUE AND THE SAFETY BULLETIN. THIS COULD'VE BEEN DONE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS: A) WHEN THE ISSUE WITH THE LEFT BRAKE HAPPENED B) WHEN I REPORTED A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM MY CAR (IN SEPT OR OCT) C) WHEN I GOT MY CAR SERVICED. THE FOLLOWING WARNING AND WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN AROUND 34,980 MILES ON MY 2016.5 MAZDA CX-5 GRAND TOURING 2.5L SKYACTIV-G WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE: MASTER WARNING LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POWER STEERING, KEYLESS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT MALFUNCTION, FORWARD SCBS DISABLED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TCS/DSC INDICATOR LIGHT, TCS OFF INDICATOR LIGHT, BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) OFF INDICATION, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, ABS WARNING LIGHT, ELECTRIC BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, AIR BAG/FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, LED HEADLIGHT WARNING LIGHT, AND THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN OFF. USING THE LEFT BLINKER WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLES POWER TO RESTART AND YES, WHILE DRIVING! THIS STARTED NOVEMBER 14, 2020 AND WHEN I NOTIFIED MAZDA, THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED AND A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE LIGHT WERE NO LONGER THERE. THIS OCCURRED AGAIN DECEMBER 15, 2020 AND MARCH 5, 2021 WHEN I DECIDED MAZDA NEEDS TO RUN A DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE CLEARLY SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. MY DEALERSHIP INSISTED IT WAS MY BATTERY (BASICALLY THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT NOT ON) AND MY REAR BRAKE PADS. THEN WHEN THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE, THEY SAID CORROSION NEEDED TO BE CLEANED WHICH WAS NOT SHOWN IN THE VEHICLE INSPECTION VIDEO. ALSO, MY CAR WAS JUST SERVICED AT MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP JULY 2020 WITH 33,706 MILES. SEPTEMBER 2020 MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I RETURNED TO A LARGE CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE. AROUND 25,000 THE TIRED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, NOW AT 36,666 MILES TIRE THREAD DEPTH IS IN THE YELLOW' MY VEHICLE ALIGNMENT HAS ZERO ISSUES AND MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP IS THE ONLY ONE WHO ROTATES THE TIRES (OR SUPPOSE TO).

THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2016 MAZDA CX-5 STARTED ACTING STRANGE A FEW WEEKS AGO. AT FIRST IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AFTER STARTING THE CAR, BUT WOULD DO SO AFTER A COUPLE OF RESTARTS. A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THIS HAPPENED AND THE BRAKE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AFTER SEVERAL RESTARTS AND I WAS GOING TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT DISENGAGED AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES. AS I UNDERSTAND IT MAZDA KNOWS THAT THE REAR CALIPER IS DEFECTIVE (SEE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN R052/16C). THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM BECAUSE THIS IS NOT SAFE.

I WAS ONE OF THE INITIAL CUSTOMERS TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND RECEIVED A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACEMENT AND NOT SIX MONTHS LATER, THE OTHER SIDE WENT OUT. I UNDERSTAND COVID LIMITATIONS BUT MAZDA NEEDS TO PROVIDE THE PARTS TO COMPLY WITH THIS RECALL CORRECT?
