I HAVE HAD THE CAR TESTED AT A REPAIR SHOP AND TWO SEPARATE COMPUTER READOUTS SHOW CODES C0020, U0140 & U0140 (RELATED TO THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT). THE SHOP PROVIDED SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 04-002/13, LAST ISSUED: 7/17/2013 RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND I MAY NOT HAVE FUNCTIONAL ABS OR DSC BUT THE BRAKES, WHILE NOT HAVING ABS, STILL FUNCTION. I WAS ADVISED THIS MAY BE A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR BUT SINCE IT IS A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE, MAZDA MAY FIX THE PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE. Summary of Complaint

WITHIN 2 DAYS OF DRIVING, MY MAZDA 3 HAD TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS, WHERE THE VALVES OF THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) FAILED, ON TWO SEPARATE TIRES. ON MONDAY, JULY 18, 2013 WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON RT. 25 IN BOURNE, MA, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AT THE NEAREST GAS STATION. THE DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE WAS VERY FLAT. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO FILL IT WITH AIR, THE VALVE PUSHED INTO THE TIRE. LUCKILY, I WAS AT A GAS STATION AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPAIR THE TIRE WITH "STANDARD" (NON-TPMS) VALVE AND I WAS ON MY WAY. AS I WAS ON VACATION. I PARKED THE CAR FOR A WEEK. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR (JULY 22), I DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 50 MILES. I STOPPED TO HAVE LUNCH AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE WAS VERY FLAT. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PUT AIR INTO THE VALVE, IT TOO PUSHED INTO THE TIRE. THAT IS TWO TPMS VALVES THAT FAILED IN TWO DAYS OF DRIVING. I CALLED MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE (800-222-5500, EXT. 6) EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO JOSE (EXT. 1180). HE WAS SYMPATHETIC, BUT WOULD NOT COMMIT TO MAZDA REPAIRING THE TPMS VALVE AT NO COST TO ME. I AM HAVING MY MECHANIC PUT IN NON-TPMS VALVES IN THE REMAINING TWO TIRES ON THE CAR, AS I FEEL THEY ARE A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. I WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. I WENT ON TO THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF VALVE FAILURES ON MAZDA3 CARS (HTTP://CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/MAZDA/MAZDA3/TIRE-PRESSURE-MONITORING-SYSTEM-PROBLEMS.PHP). I PLAN TO TAKE THE FAILED COMPONENTS TO WELLSLEY MAZDA, IN WELLSLEY MA WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, FOR EVALUATION. I DO NOT TRUST THE RELIABILITY OF THE TMPS SYSTEM IN MY MAZDA3, AND APPARENTLY THERE ARE OTHERS WHO FEEL THE SAME. THE FAILURE OF THE TPMS VALVES IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND ONE THAT THE NHTSA SHOULD CONSIDER INVESTIGATING. TIRE FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEED CAN LEAD TO VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.

HAS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK. DRIVING ABOUT 35MPH I STARTED TO LOOSE POWER AND THEN THE AT, ENGINE, TCS/DSC LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. WHEN I MADE IT HOME I LET IT SIT. WHILE I LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE ON GOOGLE LATER THAT EVENING I WENT BACK TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS STILL HAVING THE ISSUE. I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE AND MY CAR JUMPED/ JERKED REAL HARD. AS I LET GO OF THE BREAK I NOTICED MY CAR DIDN'T SLOWLY MOVE ON ITS OWN LIKE PRIOR. I ACTUALLY HAD TO PRESS THE GAS DOWN QUITE A BIT. MY CAR REVVED UP TO 3 MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE CAR HAD NO POWER WOULD HARDLY MOVE. AS I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEMS AND LIGHT ISSUES IT WAS KINDA A SURPRISE HOW EASY IT WAS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. SINCE THIS IS A VERY VERY COMMON ISSUE FOUND WITH THE MAZDA CARS. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE THAT WHEN YOU ORDER THE PART AT OVER $600.00 IN THE DIRECTIONS THAT IS SENT THEY ACTUALLY RECOMMEND RELOCATING THE TCM TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION USING ZIPTIES. WENT TO HAVE CAR CODES READ ON MY CAR INFORMED THE GUY WHAT I BELIEVED IT TO BE AND THE MOST LIKELY WILL BE U0101 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH TCM, AND I WAS CORRECT.

TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (PAID THEIR SPECIAL SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF ($165+) WITH 'MASTER TECHNICIANS' WHO KNOW ABOUT THIS SEAT RECALL, YET, FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEAT OR EVEN LOOKED IF YOU ASK ME, YET WANTED ME TO CORRECT THE NOISE BY BY INSTALLING BOTH FRONT AND REAR NEW SUSPENSION (~$1000). TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SUSPENSION SPECIALIST AND FOUND ONLY ONE (1) PART OF THE SUSPENSION THAT MAY HAVE REQUIRED CORRECTING BUT WAS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. I ASKED IF THE REMAINING SUSPENSION COMPONENTS WERE SAFE AND IF THEY WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. AND THEY SAID'NO' ONLY ONE (1), AND IT WAS BARELY DAMAGED, BUT I REPLACED IT ANYWAY. TOOK IT BACK FOR AN OIL CHANGE SINCE THEY WERE TREATING ME HONESTLY. TWO DAYS LATER, AS I WAS LEAVING MY WORK, THE SEAT FELL OFF THE RIGHT RAIL AS I WAS DRIVING. IN RETROSPECT, THE PUSH NUTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE POPPED OFF AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK FRAME HAS LOST ITS INTEGRITY, SO I SAT ASKEW. UNABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY UNLESS A PIECE OF WOOD IS HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE RAIL. IS IT POSSIBLE TO STILL REPAIR MY CAR'S DRIVER'S SEAT UNDER THE AFOREMENTIONED SAFETY RECALL? HAD MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON SO I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED THESE UP IN MY MAZDA HANDBOOK. IT SAID TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED RIGHT AWAY. I TOOK TO MY MECHANIC WHO HAS BEEN WORKING ON MY CAR FOR YEARS AND I TRUST HIM. HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE DSC MODULE AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER. HE ALSO TOLD ME IT WOULD BE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND WILL NOW BE CHARGED $150 FOR THEM TO TELL ME THE SAME THING MY MECHANIC DID. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MANY OTHER MAZDA OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT. I THINK THIS IS UNFAIR TO US THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE OR THAT THIS REPAIR IS SO EXPENSIVE. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CAR OF MY VEHICLE AND NOW I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR.

THE FUEL SENDER UNIT, LOCATED IN TOP OF THE FUEL TANK, HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK AND IS CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK. THE NIPPLE THAT PROTRUDES FROM THE FUEL PUMP HAS CRACKED FROM WHAT LOOKS TO BE PRESSURE FROM THE CONNECTING FUEL HOSE. BECAUSE OF THIS PRESSURE, THE NIPPLE LEAKS AND SPRAYS A MIST OF FUEL OFF TO THE SIDE. THE PRESSURE LOOKS TO BE TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE AS THE CRACK THAT DEVELOPED WAS DIRECTLY ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE(DRIVERS). AT APPROXIMATELY 49,000 MILES THE LEFT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR AND LATCH STARTED TO FAIL. THIS CAUSES THE LOCKS TO LOCK AND UNLOCK REPEATEDLY AT ALL SPEEDS. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND IS SOMETIMES MADE WORSE DEPENDING ON TEMPERATURE OR HOW BUMPY THE ROAD IS. I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE CONNECTOR ON THE ACTUATOR BEING LOOSE AND NOT ALWAYS MAKING A GOOD CONNECTION. THE ISSUE CAUSES ALL DOORS TO LOCK AND UNLOCK OR JUST STAY UNLOCKED WHILE DRIVING. I ALSO HAVE TO KEEP THE DOME LIGHTS TURNED OFF BECAUSE SOMETIMES THEY WOULD STAY ON. THE COMPUTER WAS THINKING THAT THE DOOR WAS OPEN. I'M SETTING THE DATE OF IT HAPPENING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH BUT IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME NOW.

I JUST BOUGHT MY DTR A 2010 THAT HAS THE SAME SPONGY BRAKE PROBLEM I'VE READ A LOT ABOUT ONLINE. THE PEDAL GIVES VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE (AND THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO BRAKING) FOR THE FIRST 1-2" OF TRAVEL, THEN IT WORKS AND BRAKES NORMALLY. I TRIED TRYING TO ACTIVATE THE ABS MANY TIMES AS SOME MENTIONED HAD "FIXED" THE PROBLEM FOR THEM BUT THAT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. NOT ONLY DID IT NOT FIX IT, BUT IT MADE ME REALIZE THAT THE ABS DOESN'T WORK SINCE AT LEAST 1 TIRE LOCKED UP AND WAS SKIDDING. SO SPONGY BRAKES, NO ABS, AND NO ABS WARNING LIGHT. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS (SOME SAY A NEW ABS AND BRAKE BOOSTER FOR $2K TOOK CARE OF IT, BUT OTHERS SAID IT DIDN'T), AND SOMEONE SAYS THERE'S EVEN A TSB FOR IT. THERE IS A RECALL APPLICABLE TO MY VEHICLE WHICH REQUIRES THAT ENGINE MOUNTS BE STABLILZED. IT MAKES MY CAR VIBRATE AND THE ENGINE SOUNDS LOUD WHILE SEATED IN THE VEHICLE.
