Summary of Complaint

BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE VISORS WILL RANDOMLY FALL FROM THE UP POSITION AND OBSTRUCT VIEW. WHEN DRIVING CAR, THIS BLOCKS THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER. THE SUN VISORS ARE BOTH DEFECTIVE, THERE IS NO POSITION THAT THE VISORS WILL STAY OTHER THAN STRAIGHT DOWN - BLOCKING VIEW. IF THE CAR GOES OVER A BUMP, THE VISOR WILL DROP DOWN. WHY EVEN INSTALL A SUN VISOR IF IT DOES NOT BLOCK THE SUN? *TR

Summary of Complaint

VEHICLE HAD NEW BRAKES - DISKS AND PADS ADDED IN EARLY MAY 2011. JULY 29 2011 DRIVING 20 + MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SOUND LIKE IT HAD A FLAT TIRE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK VEHICLE TO THE SHOP, GLANCING AT THE CAR, MECHANIC SAID MAY BE A TIRE ROD, BUT WANTED TO LOOK AT IT MORE IN DEPTH. HE STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM SOMETHING LOOSE OR CRACKED IN THE TRANSFER CASE. HE ADVISED ME THAT AT SOME POINT TRANSFER CASE WILL BUST AND ALL 4 WHEELS WILL LOCK UP. HE QUOTED ME AT LEAST $2500 FOR REPAIR. THE LOCATION OF THE TRANSFER CASE MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO REPAIR OR SERVICE. WHY WILL NISSAN NOT STAND BEHIND THIS PRODUCT. THERE IS NO RUST ON THE VEHICLE, BUT WITH 150,000 MILES ON IT NOW, IS IT WORTH THE MONEY TO REPAIR? I HAVE ALREADY REPLACE THE INTAKE MANFOLD WHICH CRACKED IN NOVEMBER. WHAT WILL BE THE NEXT PART TO BREAK - THE ENGINE ITSELF? LOVE MY MURANO, BUT THE COMPANY SHOULD BACK THEIR PRODUCT. MY MURANO HAS BEEN DRIVEN SHORT DISTANCES A FEW TIMES SINCE BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY "4 TIRES LOCK UP". *TR

Summary of Complaint

I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO ON THE HIGHWAY IN NORMAL TRAFFIC AND I HEARD A POP AND MY DRIVER SEAT DROPPED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. ONCE I STOPPED THE VEHICLE I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT TO INVESTIGATE, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING LOOSE OR BROKEN OFF. I THEN TRIED TO MOVE THE SEAT AND THE SEAT EASILY MOVES OFF OF THE FLOOR AND UP TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY FELT THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE IN DRIVING THE CAR. I WAS THANKFUL THAT THE SEAT DID NOT MOVE DRAMATICALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AS I AM SURE THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE ONE TIME BUT THE SEAT NOW CONTINUALLY MOVES IF MAKING A FAST STOP. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND AT THIS POINT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE COST WILL NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL AND WILL BE AT LEAST $1000. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AS A CRACKED SEAT FRAME. IF THE SEAT FRAME IS CRACKING DURING NORMAL USE WITH AN AVERAGE SIZE PERSON (125 LBS) I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW THE SEAT WOULD HANDLE A FULL ON ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IF THE FRAME IS ALREADY CRACKED. NOT TO MENTION THE SEAT FRAME CRACKING COULD CAUSE THE ACCIDENT. *TR

Summary of Complaint

BOUGHT A 2003 NISSAN MURANO NEW AND HAVE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. BASICALLY THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND THEN SUDDENLY SURGES FORWARD. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND SEEMS TO MOSTLY OCCUR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS HOT. SOMETIMES IT SURGES WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL YEARS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED, BUT THEY HAVE EITHER SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG OR THAT IT NEEDED A NEW AIR FILTER, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED AND IT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. NISSAN SENT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES THAT STATES IT COVERS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS UP TO 120,000 MILES, HOWEVER THE DEALER WON'T HONOR IT AND WANTS A $2,000 DEPOSIT TO ORDER THE PARTS BEFORE IT WILL SCHEDULE THE REPAIR.I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY SAID THE REPAIR IS COVERED, AND I TOLD THE DEALER THIS, BUT THE DEALER SAID NISSAN WON'T REIMBURSE HIM SO HE WON'T MAKE THE REPAIRS UNLESS I PAY, AND PAY UP FRONT, NO LESS. I CAN'T AFFORD THIS AND MY VEHICLE IS RAPIDLY APPROACHING THE 120,000 WARRANTY CUT OFF AND I HAVE THE FEELING THEY ARE JUST STALLING UNTIL THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE NO CHOICE AND I DON'T KNOW WHOM TO TURN TO. *TR

Summary of Complaint

DRIVING MY 2003 MURANO TWO DAYS AGO AT AROUND 25MPH UP A SMALL HILL. THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO JERK AND LOSE POWER. I BRIEFLY LET GO OF THE GAS AND PROBLEM STOPS. I HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AGAIN, AND AGAIN BEGINS TO JERK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. TURN IT BACK ON, TAKE OFF AGAIN AND JERKS AGAIN. I BACK OFF ON THE PEDAL AND HAD TO CLIMB THE HILL AT 15MPH. ONCE AT THE TOP, THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE. I GOT TO MY DESTINATION AND STAYED THERE FOR ABOUT 1.5 HOURS. TOOK OFF AND GOT HOME WITH NO OBVIOUS PROBLEMS. WEIRD! NEXT DAY, AT A STOP SIGN A BLOCK AWAY FROM HOME. CAR COMING FROM LEFT, I ACCELERATE AND THE CAR BOGS ON ME. WOULD NOT ACCELERATE JUST COASTED. NO POWER! CALLED THE DEALER AND DROPPED IT OFF. THEY CALL ME LATER THAT AFTERNOON AND THEY ADMIT THERE WERE HIGH GEAR ISSUES THAT WERE RESOLVED WITH RESETTING THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER BUT THEY CAN'T FIND THE SOURCE OF THE LOW GEAR PROBLEMS ( THESE GEARS ARE USUALLY THE ONES IN USE AT HIGHER SPEEDS..... ). VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING. I FELT VERY UNSAFE AND AFRAID THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN WHICH IS WHY I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALER WRITE AWAY. *TR

Summary of Complaint

DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND BEGAN TO TAKE THE EXIT . STOPPED AT THE LIGHT TO TURN LEFT AND THE CAR HAD NO POWER. THE GAS PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF , SAT A FEW MINUTES, STARTED THE CAR UP AND CREPT INTO THE INTERSECTION, TRYING TO CROSS THE HIGHWAY, MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AGAIN, SAT ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THEN AGAIN STARTED IT UP. IT TRAVELED MAYBE A HALF A BLOCK, STOPPED, TURNED THE KEY OFF, SAT IN THE HIGHWAY (VERY DANGEROUS) AND PRECEDED TO TRAVEL ANOTHER BLOCK TO MY DESTINATION. PARKED THE CAR AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET IT BACK HOME AND TO THE NISSAN DEALER. HE HAS JUST CALLED AND SAID IT IS THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF 4500.00 DOLLARS. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, THE CAR HAS ONLY 87000 MILES ONE IT. AFTER READING MANY DISCUSSION GROUPS ON THE INTERNET I FIND THAT ALOT OF OWNERS OF THE 2003 MURANO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WE CALLED NISSAN AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR US. WE NEED TO BAN TOGETHER AND GET SOME ACTION. I DON'T KNOW HOW A COMPANY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS. TOO MANY INCIDENTS TO IGNORE. *TR

Summary of Complaint

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS INITIALLY DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC THEN STATED THAT IF THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED, IT WOULD NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAL ISSUE WAS WITH THE COMPUTER AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE. HE WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 41,000. UPDATED 3/27/09 *CN UPDATED 04/01/09.(JB
