WHILE PULLING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY MY TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED AND GEARS WOULDN'T SHIFT PROPERLY. I BARELY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP & TRANSMISSION SHOPS TO FIND OUT THAT TONS OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE RADIATOR HOSE/CONNECTION GETS LEAK & RADIATOR FLUID IS SENT INTO TRANSMISSION WHICH CORRODED GEARS MAKING THE TRANSMISSION SLIP OR NOT FUNCTION. WE HAVE SPOKEN TO NISSAN USA THEMSELVES AND GOT NO WHERE. I'M DISGUSTEDED THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL AND PEOPLE AREN'T BEING NOTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE IN 2005-2010 PATHFINDER, FRONTIER, &XTERRA. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE FRONTIER. NEVER ONCE WAS I TOLD THAT AFTER OR BEFORE MY WARRANTY WENT OUT THAT THIS SPECIFIC PART WOULD MALFUNCTION. I'M CONTINUALLY TOLD IT'S MY FAULT FOR NOT GETTING EXTENDED WARRANTY. I DID HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT THE ISSUE AT HAND IS ONE SPECIFIC MALFUNCTIONING PART NOT THE AGE OR WARRANTY OF MY VEHICLE. THIS IS COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE AND THEY SAID "SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE." WE ALSO CAN'T BE INCLUDED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BECAUSE WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. I REALLY FAIL TO SEE WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL INSTEAD OF WARRANTY. DO RESEARCH AND FIND THAT NOT ONLY IN MY AREA BUT ALL OVER THE USA PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT MALFUNCTION OF THE SAME EXACT PART.. THIS OWNER WAS TOLD THERE WAS A "KNOWN" ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BEING CONTAMINATED FROM INNER COOLER. THIS OWNER WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $5500 TO FIX. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY BACK FROM GETTING GROCERIES IN A TOWN 45 MILES FROM ME. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED REVVING. I TOOK IT OFF OF CRUISE CONTROL AND TRIED PRESSING ON THE GAS. NOTHING HAPPENED. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE DARK AND BY MYSELF, I GOT IT TOWED BACK TO MY TOWN, 35 MILES AWAY. I FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD GONE OUT. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE COOLING SYSTEM HAD LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION AND FIRED THE TCM. IT WILL COST ME $4600.00 TO FIX IT. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM AFTER THE FACT OF IT HAPPENING AND NOW THEY REFUSE TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE. THEY WILL COVER UP TO 80000 MILES FOR THE RECALL AND UP TO 100000 MILES WITH A DEDUCTIBLE OF $2500.00. AND NOTHING AFTER 100000. WHY DID THEY NOT INFORM US OF THIS PROBLEM? MY HUSBAND INSPECTED THE CAR AND FOUND THAT RADIATOR FLUID CONTAINED A WHITE GREASY SUBSTANCE. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR AT MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS INDEED CROSS CONTAMINATION DUE TO A CRACKED TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE MIXING WITH THE RADIATOR FLUID. THIS WILL END UP COSTING ME $2,500.00 TO FIX. IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND BY THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE FILING COMPLAINTS IT SEEMS LIKE A DEFECT TO ME AND NOT MERE COINCIDENCE.
