Summary of Complaint

WHILE DRIVING UP A STEADY GRADE THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON', BATTERY, AND OIL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. A FEW SECONDS LATER, OR POSSIBLY AT THE SAME TIME, THE ENGINE STALLED AND ALL FORWARD POWER WAS LOST WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING (EXCEPT FOR THE WARNING LIGHTS A COUPLE OF SECONDS EARLIER). I STEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD USING THE EXISTING MOMENTUM. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAD BEEN NORMAL UP UNTIL THE INCIDENT BUT SHOWED AN OVERHEATED ENGINE AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND TURNING ELECTRICITY BACK ON (THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AT THIS TIME). *TR

VIN: 3N1CB51D82L****

Summary of Complaint

VEHICLE MOTOR STOPPED ABRUPTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE CONTINUING TO COAST. VEHICLE ALSO STOPPED WHILE IDLING AT INTERSECTIONS. BATTERY MAINTAINED FULL CRANKING POWER, BUT RESTARTING THE ENGINE SUCCESSFULLY TOOK ANYWHERE FROM 5- 30 MINUTES. ABRUPT ENGINE STOP OCCURRED AT A RATE OCCURRING BETWEEN TWO MINUTES AND AN HOUR OF DRIVING. MOTOR CONTINUED TO STOP ON ROAD, LEAVING CAR TO COAST SLOWLY OR BE BRAKED WITHOUT POWER BRAKES FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL VEHICLE WAS SERVICED. WHEN CAR STOPPED WHILE IDLED AT INTERSECTIONS, IT HAD TO BE PUSHED FROM BEHIND OUT OF THE INTERSECTION WHILE IN NEUTRAL GEAR. TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THIS WAS THE SAME SENSOR THAT WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 03V455000 DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE CAR NO LONGER STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF NISSAN NORTH AMERICA THAT THE RECALLED PART REPLACEMENT IS NOT UNDER RECALL AND THE BILL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED. AS SUCH, THE REPLACED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR APPEARS TO HAVE THE SAME GROUNDS FOR RECALL AS THE ORIGINAL PART THAT WAS RECALLED. THE DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS DISCARDED BY THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SERVICE CENTER AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE. *TR

VIN: 3N1CB51D82L****

Summary of Complaint

THE 2002 NISSAN SENTRA RAN FINE FOR THE FIRST YEAR. THERE WERE NO MAJOR ISSUES CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IN 2003 I NOTICED THE TURN SIGNAL WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT WORK. FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS IT STILL DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. THE PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT. IT MAY WORK PROPERLY ONE DAY AND NOT THE NEXT. NORMALLY YOU WILL FLIP THE TURN INDICATOR AND NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. THEN IF YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IT WOULD START TO WORK. SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT WORK NO MATTER IF YOU TURN THE WHEEL. EVEN WHEN IT DOES WORK THE SIGNAL DOES NOT BLINK AT A NORMAL REPETITION. ON TWO OCCASIONS I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER TO GET IT FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY. BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A SENSOR AND THAT PROBLEM WAS FIXED. HOWEVER, IT STILL DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. *TR

Summary of Complaint

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE ELECTRONIC COMPUTER MODULE (ECM) AND RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THERE WAS RECALL # 03V477000. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS PRIOR TO THE DATE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALERSHIP BILLED THE CONTACT FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND THE ECM REPROGRAMMING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS TOO OLD, NOV 3, 2003.

Summary of Complaint

WHEN MY 2002 SENTRA WAS BROUGHT INTO HABBERSTAD NISSAN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE OIL DIP STICK WAS BROKEN AND THE BOTTOM WAS STUCK IN THE BOTTOM. I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN THAT THE OIL PAN HAD TO BE REMOVED TO GET IT OUT AND THAT IT WOULD COST $290.00. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE SERVICE PERSON ALSO MENTIONED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON SEVERAL 2002 SENTRAS, HOWEVER NISSAN HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I HAVE SINCE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2002 MODEL. IF ANYTHING, THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER NISSAN'S WARRANTY AND SHOULD PROBABLY BE INCLUDED AS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN SHOULD RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER SINCE THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THE PLASTIC DIPSTICK BREAKING APART.*JB
