STARTING WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE IN MAY 2019, TESLA CAPPED THE MAX VOLTAGE THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY WOULD CHARGE TO. THEY CLAIM THEY DID THIS "OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION" AFTER SEVERAL NON-CRASH FIRES HAPPENED TO THESE MODELS. TESLA TOOK ACTION TO DOWNGRADE HORSEPOWER AND RANGE ALONG WITH ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF PERFORMANCE THROUGH A TOTAL VOLTAGE CAP AFTER CLAIMING TO BE RELEASING A FIRE-SAFETY UPDATE, BUT OFFICIALLY NO SAFETY UPDATE WAS RELEASED. THIS CHANGE HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND STATIONARY. I REMOVED THE REAR BUMPER COVER FROM THE CAR TO INSTALL A TRAILER HITCH. THREE OF THE FOUR NUTS WERE NOT TIGHTENED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEEL BUMPER CROSS MEMBER. THE NUTS WERE LOOSELY STARTED ONTO THE STUDS. THE NUTS ARE LOCATED IN AN AREA THAT CANNOT BE INSPECTED WITHOUT DISASSEMBLING THE REAR OF THE CAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT AFFECTS CRASH CRUMPLE ZONE INTEGRITY AND PROTECTION FOR THE REAR FACING JUMP SEATS IN THIS VEHICLE. Summary of Complaint

While driving , and all at a sudden i heard a boom knock coming from the back near the rear drive unit area, brought it to Tesla service center. They diagnosed it as a cracked subframe which let the drive unit attachment loose from one it's anchor point. The cost of repair is $3,447.95. Upon further review, i've seen numerous reports about the same incidents specially for Tesla Model S between 2013 and 2014. In numerous incidents, Tesla has replaced the subframe at will while out of warranty. Requested the same but it was denied. This happened all at a sudden and without any warning. Upon further review, I've noticed that Tesla have upgraded the subframe part number from REAR SUBFRAME ASSY(6007012-00-E) to REAR SUBFRAME ASSY(6007012-00-L). Reference is Tesla online part catalog search by model / year Possibly to address that issue.

Summary of Complaint

Tesla has had a mandatory recall for the MCU and the screen. I went to get my car repaired, and they only fixed the MCU. They said my screen was not under the recall, but the whole point of the recall was to fix it. Now, with the screen not working, I am unable to control 95% of the functions of the car, including safety features like seeing the rear camera. They wish to charge me 800$ to replace the screen, which is not right when the original recall was the fix the screen issue.

Summary of Complaint

Hello, I recently read this complaint #11394551. I experienced this same issue. It was shocking and scary - during wet weather, my brakes would not work for upwards of 3 seconds and the braking distance was worsening each month. My car literally was sliding through stop signs as though it was on ice - but it was not nor was there snow on the ground. Tesla service was able to fix this concern on my car by doing two things per Tesla: 1. New brakes/rotors all around 2. Installing a shield to which prevented water from constantly hit the brake components (I was told this constant water application is what caused the components to fail) I was fortunate and did not have an accident or injury. It saddens me to read compliant #11394551. I assumed Tesla would be fixing this concern on all cars as it clearly was a safety issue; however, it appears a recall or fix was not done on all cars. See attached invoice for the repair.

The rear trunk will not open and pulling the emergency safety cord will not open the trunk. If you review the Tesla forums this is a known issue with the car. In my case this happened while the car was parked. However if I had the rear facing seats in the trunk and was involved in an accident I would not have been able to get my children out of the car due to the emergency cord not working when the trunk latch fails.

I WAS NOTIFIED BY TESLA THAT MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE FEB 2 2021 RECALL REGARDING TOUCHSCREEN FAILURES. I HAD PREVIOUSLY REACHED OUT TO TESLA REGARDING SUCH FAILURES, BUT THEY SAID I HAD TO GIVE THEM SPECIFIC DATES & TIMES OF FAILURES FOR THEM TO TAKE ACTION, WHICH I DID NOT HAVE. WHEN NOTIFIED OF THE FEB 2021 RECALL. I CONTACTED THEM WITH 3 DATES/TIMES OF TOUCHSCREEN FAILURES. DURING THESE FAILURES, THE CAR COULD DRIVE, BUT I COULD NOT USE BACK-UP CAMERAS, OR USE MOST OF THE CAR'S FEATURES INCLUDED DEFOGGERS, ETC. AFTER CONTACTING TESLA ON FEB 2, 2021, THEY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO COME IN TO ADDRESS THE RECALL. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO TESLA THIS WEEK, AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 2 DAYS. WHEN I CAME TO PICK UP THE CAR, THEY SAID THEY DID NOT DO ANY REPAIRS RELATED TO THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH I HAD SHOWN THEM DATES AND TIMES OF REPEATED TOUCHSCREEN FAILURES). THEY SAID THAT THAT THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO THE MEMORY ISSUE INDICATED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SEVERE ENOUGH TO ADDRESS (DESPITE TELLING ME PREVIOUSLY THIS WAS ALL COVERED UNDER THE NHTSA RECALL AND THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED). THE INVOICE THEY GAVE ME SAYS THE FOLLOWING: "PERFORMED MCU DIAGNOSIS, AND RESULTS WERE NOT WITHIN CONCERNING BOUNDS. PROACTIVELY INSPECTED VEHICLES MEMORY AND FOUND SPACE STILL AVAILABLE, CLEARED OUT NAVIGATION FILES, MAP TILES, AND MEDIA CACHE TO FREE UP ADDITIONAL SPACE. DUE NOTE TO ROUTINELY CLEAR TRIPS AS IT ALSO TAKES UP MEMORY SPACE. NO REPAIRS RECOMMENDED AT THIS TIME." I TRIED TO BRAKE AND TO PUT IT INTO PARK AND NOTHING WAS WORKING. IT FINALLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND QUIT HITTING THE GARAGE. THERE WAS LOTS OF SMOKE AND I THOUGHT CAR WAS ON FIRE. THERE WAS LOTS OF BURNED RUBBER UNDER MY LEFT REAR TIRE CAUSING THE SMOKE. NONE UNDER RIGHT SIDE. THERE WERE WORKERS AT THE HOUSE (CAR BEHIND ME) AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CAR DOING IT. I WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I CALLED TESLA THAT DAY AND A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY SPECIAL TEAM IN ABOUT 6 WEEKS AND THAT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD WHAT HAPPENED FROM COMPUTER. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM TESLA. MY CAR WAS CHECKED OUT AT THE TESLA SHOP IN COUNCIL BLUFFS AFTER BODY WORK DONE AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO CHECK COMPUTER AS TO WHAT HAPPENED AND THAT WOULD BE DONE BY TESLA ENGINEERS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY INFORMATION EITHER. THEY ASKED ME TO REPORT UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION ON THIS SITE. IT DID $23,000 IN DAMAGES TO MY CAR AND $25,000 TO MY HOUSE AND KNOCKED IT OFF FOUNDATION IN AFFECTED CORNER. IF BOTH TIRES HAD BEEN SPINNING I DON'T THINK I WOULD BE HERE AS I WOULD HAVE GONE STRAIGHT THROUGH GARAGE AND FLYING AS IT IS A ONE STORY DROP TO THE BACK. I WANT TO KNOW MY CAR IS SAFE BEFORE DRIVING AGAIN AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHY INCIDENT HAPPENED.

IN JUNE 2019 I NOTICED THE CONTROL SCREEN OF MY 2013 TESLA MODEL S GOING BLANK RANDOMLY WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND THEN RE-ACTIVATING AFTER MINUTES, HOURS OR UNTIL THE CAR SAT BEFORE BEING DRIVEN AGAIN. THIS CONTINUES AND I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS THE SCREEN TO SELECT THE BACKUP CAMERA AS THE SCREEN FREEZES AND DOES NOT ALLOW USE OF ANY FEATURES. PERIODICALLY THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WILL NOT EXTEND WHILE DRIVING UNTIL WE HAVE DRIVEN FOR 5 TO 30 MINUTES. I HAVE REPORTED THE SCREEN BLANKING ISSUE AND MIRRORS TO TESLA SERVICE IN SYOSSET NY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS RELATED TO MY MODEL S BEING AN OLDER MODEL WITH AN OLDER COMPUTER THAT HAS TO 'CATCH UP' TO WHAT IS BEING SELECTED ON THE SCREEN. THE SOFTWARE IT IS RUNNING IS REALLY INTENDED FOR NEWER MODELS THAT HAVE A FASTER COMPUTER. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, TESLA WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD PROBABLY REACH THE CONCLUSION THAT TESLA SERVICE TOLD ME. I RECENTLY READ ABOUT TESLA'S WARRANTY ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM: TOUCHSCREEN COMPONENT ' 8GB EMBEDDED MULTIMEDIACARD (EMMC) IN MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU). IT APPEARS THAT WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THIS WARRANTY ADJUSTMENT IS IDENTICAL TO THE SYMPTOMS WITH MY TESLA AS I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS THE SAFETY FEATURES, REAR CAMERA AND SIDE VIEW MIRRORS. MY CAR HAS 113,500 MILES AND THE PROGRAM ONLY COVERS CARS WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. I FEEL THAT I WAS MISLED BY TESLA SERVICE AS I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE CAR GOING OVER 100,000 MILES AND WAS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS DARTINESS BECAME WORSE AND WORSE OVER TIME, AND ALSO WAS WORSE WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING. WE FIRST ALERTED THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM IN AUG 2019, AND THEY REPLACED FEW COMPONENTS IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION (BOTH UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND THE RIGHT FORELINK) AND CHARGED US $1571+TAX FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THE STEERING SEEMED A LITTLE BETTER FOR A WHILE, BUT IN JAN 2020 WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN WITH CONCERNS ABOUT VAGUE STEERING AND THE DEALER RECOMMENDED A WHEEL ALIGNMENT, WHICH WE PAID FOR. THE ALIGNMENT YIELDED NO IMPROVEMENT AND THE CAR BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, REQUIRING CONSTANT STEERING ADJUSTMENTS TO KEEP IN ITS LANE. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER IN MAY 2020, AND BY THIS TIME THE DEALER VERBALLY AGREED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE. THEY REPLACED BOTH REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLIES AND CHARGED US $1382+TAX, BUT THIS STILL DID NOT RESOLVE THE DARTINESS. WE RETURNED TO THE DEALER LATER IN MAY 2020, AND THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING NEARLY EVERY OTHER SUSPENSION PART, INCLUDING BOTH REAR TOE LINKS, BOTH REAR UPPER LINKS, BOTH FRONT AFT LINKS, THE FRONT FORE LINK THAT WASN'T PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE COST FOR THIS WAS A $1870+TAX. FORTUNATELY, THE STEERING ISSUES DID NOT RESULT IN ANY ACCIDENTS. SINCE THIS LAST REPAIR, THE CAR NOW DRIVES RELATIVELY NORMALLY FOR A 7 1/2 YEAR OLD CAR. WE ARE REPORTING OUR EXPERIENCE AFTER WE LEARNED THAT THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING A SERIES OF OTHER SUSPENSION-RELATED CONCERNS WITH TESLA MODEL S CARS.
