THE DASHBOARD OF THE CAR IS MELTING AND HAS BECOME VERY SHINY CAUSING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT PARTIALLY OBSCURES THE VIEW OF THE ROAD, PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE IS BRIGHT SUNSHINE. TOYOTA ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGES THE SAFETY ISSUE AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE DASHBOARD TO 10 YEARS. MY CAR (PURCHASED NEW) DID NOT EXHIBIT THE MELTING ISSUE UNTIL AFTER WE MOVED IT FROM NORTHERN STATES, MD AND MI TO FL STARTING IN JAN 2016. THE FAILURE ONLY APPARENT AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR 10 YEARS EXPIRED IN OCT 2017. THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2008 CAMRY HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY SOFT AND STICKY OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT IS STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND FEELS LIKE YOU ARE TOUCHING THE BACK OF SOME KIND OF TAPE. I HAVE PUT NO TYPE OF CLEANER ON THE DASHBOARD EXCEPT FOR MAYBE AN OCCASIONAL WIPE DOWN WITH ARMORALL (A PRODUCT THAT SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS SITUATION). my vehicle dashpad has suddenly begun to slowly melt and has become very sticky and shinny, the shininess causes a constant glare on the windshield, making it difficult and dangerous to drive especially during daylight hrs. I learned that there was a recall for this issues and contacted Toyota on 5/24/2021, and was told the recall for this issue expired in 2017, and there is nothing they will do for it now. I like to express that i purchased my vehicle in April of 2016, and was never notified of the recall, Toyota never sent me a letter informing me of the issue and i have taken my vehicle several time to the Dealer for other repair/maintenance prior to 2017 and was not informed of the recall by by them during that time. My case # with Toyota is 210524000564. i have searched the internet and also found that is a concerned issued with many other Toyota car owners. My vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V491000 (VISIBILITY) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PUMPING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, THE VEHICLE RESPONDED AND OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

EARLIER THIS YEAR I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE DASHBOARD OF MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2008 HAS BECOME STICKY AND SHINY. INITIALLY I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T CLEAN IT. BUT AS I TRIED TO WIPE AND CLEAN, IT GOT WORSE BECAUSE OF THE STICKINESS. IT WAS ONLY AFTER I LOOKED IT UP ON GOOGLE THAT I LEARNED THAT DASHBOARDS SHOULD NEVER BECOME STICKY AND SHINY IN THE FIRST PLACE. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE ABOUT MY CAR BEING ONE OF THOSE MODELS THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE.

CALLED THE DEALER TO ASK ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BUT THAT MY CAR WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY OR BY THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA WHO SAID THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE. I GOT A CALL TODAY STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE VEHICLE. DON'Y KNOW WHY THEY WON'T FIX IT SINCE IT IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THEY GLARE OFF THE DASH IS SO BAD THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN DRIVING. IT'S A REAL SAFETY CONCERN.

THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING WAY TOO MUCH OIL AND AFTER LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM I REALIZED THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE SENT OUT A LETTER YEARS AGO IN 2016 I BELIEVE BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF NOTICE ABOUT THIS SO CALLED EXTENDED WARRANTY TO WHERE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FIX THE DEFECT PISTONS IN THE ENGINE. SO NOW THEY SAY IT IS PAST THE TIME FRAME AND MILES TO FIX IT AT THEIR COST. NOW IT IS BURNING MORE OIL AND GETTING WORSE AND TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THEIR MISTAKE. BAD BUISNESS!
