Summary of Complaint

DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 70MPH WHEN THE DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH SEVERAL LIGHTS, INCLUDING EMERGENCY, BRAKE AND ABS, AND A CHECK VSC SYSTEM INDICATION. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE AND CAREFULLY APPLY THE BRAKE AT SEVERAL INTERVALS TO STOP. THIS IS AN ONGOING AND KNOWN ABS ACTUATOR PROBLEM IN 07 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRIDS. THE TOYOTA DEALER WILL NOT COVER THE $3K COST TO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR BECAUSE IT IS PAST THE 10 YEAR LIMIT. PLEASE EITHER ISSUE A RECALL OR EXTEND THE WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR CONSUMERS.

Summary of Complaint

MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID STARTED EXPERIENCING AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON DASH, "CHECK VSC SYSTEM", ADDITIONALLY ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP. THIS STARTED HAPPENING AT THE END OF MARCH 2018. I HAVE AN OBD2 READER AND THE FAULT CODE WAS "C1391". I WAS ABLE TO ERASE THE CODE AND DASHBOARD RETURNED TO NORMAL BUT MESSAGE AND LIGHTS RETURN 2-3 DAYS LATER. IN MID-JUNE 2018 I TOOK THE CAMRY TO TOYOTA TO REPAIR IT. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ($109) TO TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY TOLD THEM REGARDING THE CODE. I KNEW THAT WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. THEY GAVE ME A A QUOTE OF $1895 FOR PART AND TAX AND AN ADDITIONAL $340 PLUS TAX FOR LABOR. I PICKED UP MY CAR, DID NOT HAVE THE $2400 TO GET THE WORK DONE (PARTS ALSO WOULD TAKE 2 DAYS TO GET). THEY DID WARN ME AGAINST DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO POINTED OUT THE ODD MOTORIZED NOISE THE ACTUATOR WAS MAKING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OFF. HE SAID IT SHOULDN'T MAKE ANY NOISE WHEN IT WAS OFF. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH ON FORUMS, I FOUND THERE WAS A TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM ZE1 SPECIFICALLY FOR MY VEHICLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SEE ATTACHED). IT WAS ISSUED IN JULY 2014 TO OFFER FULL REPLACEMENT AND REPROGRAMMING AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. HOWEVER, IT HAD DATED CONDITIONS AND WAS ONLY APPLICABLE IF THE LIGHTS AND MESSAGES CAME UP ON DASH. ALTHOUGH THE SOUND HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE USED CAR IN JAN 2010, I DID NOT RECEIVE LIGHTS OR MESSAGE UNTIL MARCH 2018 BUT THE GRACE PERIOD RAN OUT ON JULY 2017. TOYOTA SHOULD HONOR THE EXTENSION OF THE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS IF THEY WON'T PROACTIVELY RESOLVE IT PRIOR TO THE INDICATED SIGNS. TOYOTA IS WARNING ME TO FIX THIS AT MY COST OR RISK BRAKE FAILURE AT ANY TIME.

Summary of Complaint

YOU HAD AN INVESTATION INTO POWER BREAKING CONCERNS, I HAD THIS ISSUE HTTPS://WWW.EDMUNDS.COM/CAR-NEWS/FEDS-CLOSE-PROBE-INTO-2007-11-TOYOTA-CAMRY-HYBRID-FOR-POWER-BRAKING-CONCERNS.HTML OCCUR WHILE ON THE ROAD TRAVELING AT SPEED. LUCKILY FOR ME THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC AND NO ONE WAS STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE ALARMS WENT OFF I HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING FUNCTIONALITY INCLUDING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE UNTIL MY SPEED WAS DOWN BELOW 20MPH. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY TOYOTA TO COVER THE ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE SUFFICIENT AS TOYOTAS ARE RELIABLE AND RUN FOR FAR LONGER THAN THE WARRANTY COVERED, MAKING THE VEHICLES COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR PURCHASE AS A USED CAR. THE ALARMS ON THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THE ALARMS HAD OCCURRED THE FIRST WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING SO I DIDN'T REALIZE MY BRAKES WERE AFFECTED, AT THAT TIME THE COMPUTER DID NOT EVEN REGISTER AN ALARM CODE SO TOYOTA DID NOTHING CALLING IT A GLITCH WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN, EVEN THOUGH IT'S APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE.

Summary of Complaint

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY BRAKING. THERE WAS A THUMP OF SOME SORT IN THE FEEL OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN BEING DEPRESSED. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THERE WAS AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED SAYING "CHECK VSC SYSTEM WITH CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM ALTERNATING. THESE MESSAGES ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL AND SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS LIT UP AND REMAINED ON. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS CAR AND AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON, DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRIDS. FROM MANY SIMILAR STORIES I HAVE READ, TOYOTA AND TOYOTA DEALERS RESPOND TO THIS ISSUE AS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND IF THEY ARE SO AWARE THERE SHOULD BE A SUITABLE RESOLUTION OFFERED ALONG WITH A RECALL FOR ALL TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID OWNERS SO OUR LIVES WILL NOT BE IN DANGER. DELAYING FIXING THIS ISSUE WILL EVENTUALLY COST SOMEONE THEIR LIFE. *TR

Summary of Complaint

AS I WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY THE ABS WENT OUT AND ALMOST ALL BRAKE AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND I LOST ALMOST ALL BRAKING AND STABILITY CONTROL OF THE CAR. I WAS LATER TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR HAD GONE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED ($1500). IT TURNS OUT THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND ARE NOT ISSUING A RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THEYRE OFFERING AN WARRANTY EXTENSION IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO ASK FOR SINCE THEY DON'T VOLUNTEER THE INFORMATION. I CAN'T STRESS HOW DANGEROUS OF A SITUATION THIS HAS LEFT ME WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HERE'S ALSO A REPORT BY CONSUMER REPORTS MAGAZINE FROM JULY 2014 THAT OUTLINES THE ISSUE: HTTP://WWW.CONSUMERREPORTS.ORG/CRO/NEWS/2014/07/WHY-TOYOTA-SHOULD-RECALL-THE-CAMRY-HYBRID/INDEX.HTM. *TR
