Summary of Complaint

THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK IS DANGEROUSLY RUSTED, AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO HONOR ITS OWN RECALL COMMITMENT TO REPLACE THE FRAME BECAUSE OF AN ARBITRARY DEADLINE FOR INSPECTION. THE DATE IS IRRELEVANT TO THE BASIC PROBLEM -- THEIR FRAME IS DEFECTIVE, I AND MY PASSENGERS ARE AT RISK, AND REPAIR IS URGENTLY NEEDED. NHSTA SHOULD CHALLENGE AUTO MAKERS, ESPECIALLY TOYOTA, ON THE POLICY OF TIME-LIMITED RECALLS. UPDATED 11/08/2017*JS

Summary of Complaint

I recently bought this Tacoma used and just found out from my local mechanic that the frame is severely rusted and likely unsafe to drive. I immediately scheduled a frame inspection with Toyota. They confirmed that it was very unsafe to drive and gave me a quote of $14,711 to fix it. This is more than the value of the truck. Although Toyota acknowledged that there was a service campaign for rust issues on these trucks they said it had expired and there was nothing I could do.

Summary of Complaint

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while having the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic, he was informed that there was severe corrosion to the sub-frame of the vehicle. Prior to the discovery, the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where the frame was sprayed with a rust inhibitor to prevent corrosion. Over the years, the contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer on multiple occasions to have the frame checked. On each visit, the contact was informed that the sub-frame was in good shape. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was out of warranty but offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

Summary of Complaint

My airbag warning light went off and the horn ceased functioning as well. The dealer charged me $170 to diagnose the problem as a broken spiral cable in the steering wheel. I asked about a recall for this part as there are plenty of other Toyota models with a recall for this same part. I was told that this particular VIN was not part of any campaign (yet). Are they actually different parts on the RAV4 and 4Runners or the same part?? There are plenty of documented failures and testimonials about the Tacoma issue but no recall??? Where does pressure need to come from to initiate one? Another $575 to fix it, what is a glaring safety issue.

Summary of Complaint

My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( Ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( Cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in New Concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like.So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on a trailer.

Summary of Complaint

On June 26, 2021, I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to Bennett Toyota for regular maintenance. As part of the inspection, I was notified that the "Frame very rusted, perforation may begin on cab mounts in the next year" and the Service Advisor told me that my car would be unsafe to drive in a year or two. I told the Service Advisor that in 2015, I received a recall notice from Toyota regarding frame rust and took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to Bennett Toyota to address the issue. On April 22, 2015, Bennett Toyota provided "Corrosion-Resistant Compound (CRC) Application; Remove Rust - Clean Frame - No Rust Perforation Found". Again on March 29, 2018, I requested that Bennett Toyota inspect the frame for corrosion perforation and was notified that "No Significant Perforation Found". The Service Advisor stated that the extended warranty had expired and there was nothing Bennett Toyota could do to address the rusted frame. I then called Toyota and opened case# 210628002014 to request the rusted frame be addressed/replaced/repaired and was told that the extended warranty had expired and there was nothing that Toyota would do to address the issue. I have a Toyota Tacoma with a known issue that is quickly becoming unsafe to drive and have no way to repair/replace the rusted frame.

WHEN THE BREAKS WOULD GO OUT IT WAS ALWAYS AT SPEEDS OVER 40MPH AND ON HIGHWAYS COUNTRY ROADS AND ALWAYS ON A RETURN TRIP AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF ONCE. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT WAS BAD FRONT BREAKS AND FRONT LEFT BEARING, REPLACED BOTH TOOK IT HOME TWO WEEKS LATER BREAKS WENT OUT AGAIN ON HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO STOP AT A LIGHT, BROUGHT IT BACK TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, BREAKS WERE STILL OUT. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG EXCEPT I HEATED UP MY FRONT BREAKS WHILE TRYING TO STOP, AND THAT THEY WERE NOW COOL AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. Summary of Complaint

I HAVE A BLACK-COLORED 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. FOR MANY YEARS, I'VE WONDERED WHY THE PAINT ON THE HOOD CHIPPED OFF IN TINY CIRCLES, UNLIKE ANY OTHER MODEL VEHICLE THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED. RECENTLY, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW BADLY RUSTED A SECTION OF THE ROOF OF MY CAB WAS. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE AND FOUND PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SEEMED TO OWN PICK-UPS THAT WERE ALSO PAINTED BLACK, AND WERE ALSO 2006 MODELS. THE RUST PATTERNS SEEMED SIMILAR IN EVERY PICTURE I VIEWED, A PORTION OF THE ROOF ABOVE THE DRIVERS SIDE, RUSTED THE LENGTH FROM NEAR THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AREA TO NEAR THE BACK OF THE CAB. IN MY OPINION, AND BASED ON THE PICTURES OF SIMILAR INSTANCES I'VE VIEWED ONLINE, THERE SEEMS TO POSSIBLY BE SOME COMPELLING EVIDENCE OF A DEFICIENCY IN THE PAINTING METHOD OR MATERIAL USED ON THIS COLOR/YEAR TRUCK. IS THERE A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN IN THE WORKS? I BELIEVE TOYOTA NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AS SOMETHING DOES NOT SEEM QUITE RIGHT AND THAT THEY SHOULD ADDRESS THESE ANOMALIES IN AN EFFORT TO REACH A FAIR RESOLUTION? BTW, THE REAR BUMPER'S EXCEPTIONALLY RUSTED OUT TOO, AND THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT COVERINGS ON THIS MODEL HAVE CLOUDED UP WORSE THAN I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE MAKE, AS MOST OTHER HEADLIGHTS THAT I AM FAMILIAR WITH ARE MADE OF GLASS. Summary of Complaint

THIS VEHICLE IS COVERED IN THE TOYOTA RUSTY FRAME LAWSUIT. AS SUCH, IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND DEEMED NOT TO NEED A FRAME REPLACEMENT BOTH TIMES. IT WAS TREATED WITH CRC. ITS LAST INSPECTION WAS IN NOVEMBER OF 2018. ON SUNDAY, MAY 17TH, 2020, THE FRAME BROKE AT THE FRONT CROSS-MEMBER CAUSING THE LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM TO SEPARATE AND STEERING THE VEHICLE/CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE BECAME NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND TURNING LEFT (IN REVERSE AT LOW SPEED) AFTER A FULL 2 WEEKS OF DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIA. I QUESTION ALL INSPECTIONS OF FRAMES BEING PERFORMED WITHIN THE TOYOTA DEALER NETWORK AND HOPE THAT NOBODY HAS THIS FAILURE WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING AT SPEED AS THE RESULTS WILL BE CATASTROPHIC. *TR

THIS IS NOT RIGHT, HOW CAN I RESELL A TRUCK THAT HAS A FAULTY FRAME? I AM UPSET THEY GOT AWAY WITH OUT A RECALL.
