Summary of Complaint

RE 2008 TUNDRA, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND FEELS "SQUISHY" . WILDE TOYOTA IN WESTALLIS,WISCONSIN INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AND PURPORTEDLY INSTALLED ALL NEW BRAKE FLUID AND SAID THEY DID A SCANNING TOOL COMPUTERIZED BLEED OF THE WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE ABS PUMP SYSTEM BLEED. THEY CAHRGED ME APROX $113.00 FOR THAT SERVICE AND THE ISSUE IS UNRESOLVED...THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL EASILY GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WILDE TOYOTA STATES THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION FOR THIS 2008 TUNDRA AS THEY SAY THAT THEY HAVE OTHER 2008 TUNDRA'S THAT DO THE SAME. THEY STATE THEIR IS NO FIXING OF THE ISSUE AND THAT THEY ALLEGE MY BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS GUIDELINES SET BY THE NHTS.. I'VE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WHOM HAS THE SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THEIR BRAKES. WHEN THE TRUCK IS NOT RUNNING, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD AND DOESN'T GO TO THE FLOOR AND THAT IT WHAT WILDE TOYOTA SAYS IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. BUT THAT INFORMATION OR SPECIFICATION ISN'T RELEVANT WHEN IT COME TO SAFETY, AS WHAT IS IMPORTANT, IS HOW THE BRAKES WORK AND OPERATE AND FEEL WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND CONSIDER MODIFYING YOUR SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIRMENTS ETC OF THIS ISSUE TO HAVE THE SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDE THE DISTANCE THE BRAKE PEDAL CAN TRAVEL WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THIS SERVICE YOU OFFER. I HAVE A VIDEO OF ME USING MY WEAKER LEFT HAND TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE TRUCK IS RUNNING,, BUT IT APPEARS MPG4 VIDEOS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE UPLOADED WITH THIS COMPLAINT, THEREFORE I TOOK TWO SCREEN SHOTS OF THE VIDEO WHICH I AM SEND. ONE PICTURE SHOWS THE TOP OF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RESTING AT APPROX 4" OFF THE FLOOR, AND THE SECOND PICTURE SHOWS THE TOP OF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS 1/2" OFF THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED BY MY LEFT HAND AND THE ENGINE RUNNING.

Summary of Complaint

ON 6/09/2020 THIS OWNER'S 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP INCLUDING THE VSC, TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE AND 4 LO. THE 4 LO LIGHT WAS FLASHING. THE TRUCK WOULD NO LONGER GO PAST 3000 RPM. WRITER DROVE THE TRUCK HOME. IT WAS THEN TAKEN TO TARBOX TOYOTA FOR EVALUATION. THEY NOTIFIED WRITER THAT THE VEHICLE'S SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM REQUIRED REPAIR AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH TOYOTA TUNDRAS. TOYOTA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER VEHICLES IMPACTED BY THIS DEFECT. COST TO REPAIR IS $2300. TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH THIS ISSUE BUT ADVISED ME TO STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE. SO THEY ARE AWARE THAT THIS DEFECT IS DANGEROUS YET WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER SAID WARRANTY. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP. I AM A NURSE WHO WORKS IN A HOSPITAL DURING THIS PANDEMIC AND I NO LONGER HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WHERE TOYOTA EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTIES TO COVER THIS. HOWEVER THEY REFUSE TO ASSIST ME. NOW I AM STUCK WITH A TRUCK THAT CANNOT GO PAST 30MPH AND ITS EMISSION SYSTEM IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. *TR

I HAD MY TRUCK BED RHINO LINED WHEN NEW. I NOW HAVE ONLY 95,000 MILES ON IT AND THE BED IS RUSTING FROM UNDERNEATH. I LOWERED THE SPARE TIRE AND COULD SEE THE CORROSION MORE CLEARLY. THE RUST IS ACTUALLY BUBBLING UP THE RHINO LINER.TOYOTA DID ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER MINE WAS NOT SHOWING THESE ISSUES AT THE TIME, NOW THE RECALL HAS EXPIRED. TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM, THEY NEED TO EXTEND THE RECALL SO THAT VEHICLES CAN BE REPAIRED SAFELY AND PUT BACK ON THE ROAD WITHOUT THE BED FALLING OFF. *TR

Summary of Complaint

BED BOLTS BEGAN RUSTING SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING. WAITED A YEAR AND IT GOT WORSE, RUSTING THE BED, SO I BROUGHT IT TO DEALER #2 WHO SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO - NO RECALL OR TSBS. MY FRAME WAS REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO AT ORIGINAL DEALER AND I ASKED ABOUT THE BED AGAIN BUT WAS TOLD NO WARRANTY, RECALL OR TSB. I JUST LEARNED THAT THERE IS A TSB ON THE BOLTS AND CORROSION OF THE BED. OTHER THAN A RUSTED OUT BED, MY TRUCK LOOKS AND RUNS GREAT BUT I'M AFRAID THAT MY BED IT GOING TO FALL OFF EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP. I FEEL LIKE I WAS MISLED - LIED TO - BY BOTH DEALERSHIPS. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED THIS ISSUE 10 YEARS AGO. I AM NOT IN THE POSITION TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE OR PURCHASE A NEW TRUCK. TOYOTA SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FOR NOT MAKING THE CORRECTIONS AS SOON AS THE ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED. THE DESIGN IS FLAWED AS THE BED IS DOUBLE WALLED WITH SOME SORT OF INSULATION BETWEEN THE LAYERS. AS IT RUSTS FROM UNDERNEATH, WATER ENTERS BETWEEN THE WALLS AND THE INSULATION HOLDS THE MOISTURE. BY THE TIME THE RUST BEGINS TO SHOW ON TOP THE BOTTOM IS SO FAR GONE. I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO SCRAP A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S NEGLECT. *TR

Summary of Complaint

I HAD REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA REGARDING THE PREMATURE CHASSIS RUST ISSUE ON THEIR TRUCKS. I HAD INADVERTENTLY MISSED THE CUT OFF DATE FOR THE COATING WHICH WAS IN MAY OF 2018 DUE TO AN UNAVOIDABLE PERSONAL EVENT. WHAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE WAS THAT THEY EXTENDED THE CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE CHASSIS IF THE PERFORATION WAS DEEMED SEVERE UNTIL JANUARY OF 2020. I HAD THE CHASSIS INSPECTED BY A TOYOTA DEALER BEFORE THIS JANUARY CUTOFF DATE. WHILE THERE ISN'T SUFFICIENT PERFORATION TO WARRANT A REPLACEMENT BUT IT IS CLEARLY EVIDENT THAT THE CHASSIS WAS NEVER PAINTED AND THE RUSTING ON THE CHASSIS IS CLEARLY PROMINENT FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. WHAT IS MOST DISCONCERTING IS THAT THEY WOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE FRAMES BUT THEY WOULD NOT EXTEND THE CUTOFF TO COAT THE CHASSIS. SHOULDN'T THIS COATING BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER WITHOUT A CUTOFF DATE? MY TRUCK HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF, NEVER ABUSED AND ALWAYS WASHED AFTER SNOW STORMS BUT DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN WHEREAS THE INITIAL CHASSIS COATING WAS FAULTY I AM NOW FACED WITH A TRUCK THAT LOOKS ALMOST MINT BUT THE CHASSIS WILL BE FAILING PREMATURELY. I HAD REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA BUT THEY FLAT OUT REFUSED TO PROVIDE THE COATING AS I MISSED THE CUTOFF DATE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL SOON BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE TRUCK WILL LOSE IT'S STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY WITHOUT THE CRUCIAL COATING TO INHIBIT THE RUSTING. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING THE NHTSA CAN DO TO HELP, THANK YOU.

TUNDRA WON'T ACCELERATE AS ENGINE GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHICH RESTRICTS SPEED CAPABILITY OF VEHICLE. THIS IS RELATED TO AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE AND RELATED ALSO TO AIR SWITCHING VALVES. LIMP MODE ON A TOYOTA RESTRICTS SPEED AT WHICH YOU CAN DRIVE, SHIFTING AND TOP SPEED ARE RESTRICTED. SLOWS TO POINT IF ENTERING HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH SPEED OVER 50 MPH COULD NOT DO IT. TOYOTA IS AWARE AND HAS A CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZTQ BUYING VEHICLE USED NOT AWARE OF THIS OR ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I SLOWED TRAFFIC AND CAUSED BACK UP ON THE STREET WAS TRAVELING COULD NIT DO MORE THAN 20-30 MPH ON ROAD POSTED AT 50 MPH. GLAD NOT ENTERING FREEWAY. PLENTY OF U TUBE VIDEOS DETAILING REPAIR AND PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA DOCUMENTATION SAYS 477,000 TUNDRA VEHICLES WERE COVERED BY THIS ENHANCED WARRANTY PROGRAM. I BELIEVE PURSUANT TO THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REFERRED TO AS BRIAN WARNER ET AL TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION MY VEHICLE MAY BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE GAS TANK STRAP MOUNTING IS PART OF THE FRAME. Summary of Complaint

I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE $3500 TO REPAIR. THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TUNDRA. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT TOYOTA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS BUT IT EXPIRED AFTER 10 YEARS OR 150,000, I HAVE 121,000. WHEN THE PUMP FAILS IT CAUSES THE VEHICAL TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. I RAN A ERRAND TODAY AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE. I WENT TO THE STORE AND RETURNED TO THE TRUCK. I STARTED IT AND THE THE VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I HEADED INTO TRAFFIC THE VEHICAL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TRAFFIC AND ALMOST GOT REARENDED. TOYOTA SHOULD OF HAD A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS AIR PUMP IS INSTALLED ON TUNDRAS AND OTHER MODELS. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2008 AND HAVE SERVICED IT ON THE MFG SCHEDULE. SINCE THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE PUMPS DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE INSTEAD OF NOT DOING NOTHING AND HOPE IT DOES NOT OCCUR. EVEN IF I REPLACE THE PUMPS WHAT SAYS IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I LOST CONFIDENCE IN MY TRUCK AND AM AFRAID IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Summary of Complaint

ON 01-08-2018 I HAD A MVA IN WHICH THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE AND MY AIR BAG WAS DEPLOYED. AS YOU MAY JUDGE FROM THE PICTURE THE IMPACT WAS MINIMAL. THE OTHER VEHICLE, A 2003 HONDA CIVIC, WAS DRIVABLE, WHILE MY MUCH BIGGER TRUCK WAS NOT DUE TO MY CONDITION AND THE DEPLOYED AIR BAG. I WAS KNOCK OUT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 7 MINUTES, I MADE THIS ESTIMATE BY THE ARRIVAL OF WINTER PARK PD. I ALSO SUFFERED TWO FRACTURED RIBS ON MY RIGHT ARM PIT AREA AND ONE ON MY LEFT ARM PIT AREA, THIS WAS ACCORDING TO THE ER DOCTOR AND A FRACTURE OF MY L5 VERTEBRAE ACCORDING TO MY MRI REPORT. FOUR HERNIATED DISC AND SIX BULGING. IT IS MY SINCERE BELIEVE THAT SOME IF NOT ALL THIS PERSONAL INJURIES I SUFFERED WERE RELATED TO AN OVER PRESSURED AIR BAG SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY TRUCK, I FEEL A NEED TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT. AS NOTED ON MY PD REPORT I HAD JUST INITIATED A U-TURN SO I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TRAVELING MORE THAN 15 MPH ON LEE RD. (A PAVED CITY STREET). SEE ALSO ODI 11287678. *DSY

Summary of Complaint

CODE P2442 CAME UP ON MY TRUCK. THIS CODE INDICATES THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND VALVES ARE GOING BAD ON MY TRUCK. ALSO CAUSES THE TRUCK TO GO INTO LIMP MODE RESULTING IN SEVERE LOSS OF POWER WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS IN THE WRONG SITUATION. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM IF YOUR TRUCK HAS OVER 150000MI OR 10 YEARS SINCE FIRST USE. THIS AFFECTS ALL TUNDRA AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS ISSUE TWICE, SO THEY KNOW THIS SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES.

Summary of Complaint

VIBRATION AT 70,000 MILES IN FRONT AND REAR OF VEHICLE. CHECKED OUT ONLINE. SEEMS PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BEARINGS IN TOYOTA TUNDRA'S AT RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE . TOOK TO MECHANIC. BEARINGS NEED REPLACED IN FRONT RIGHT AND REAR WHEEL HUBS. 70,000 MILES, WOW. MECHANIC WAS FLABBERGASTED TOO. LITTLE EARLY FOR BEARING REPLACEMENT . WITH THE FRAME ALREADY UNDER RECALL. MAKES YOU WONDER WHO WENT CHEAP WITH BEARING'S TOO. I BOUGHT TOYOTA IN THINKING THINGS LIKE THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN. MY 1996 NISSAN FRAME LOOKS BETTER THEN THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK. TOYOTA INSPECTED FRAME . TOLD ME IT LOOKED BETTER THAN MOST . BOLTS THAT HOLD BED ON UNDER MY BED LINER ARE ALREADY RUSTED, AS WELL AS THE BED BODY AND FRAME .TOLD ME IT DOESN'T MEET REPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS . SO NOW I'M WAITING FOR THEM TO SPRAY UNDERNEATH BODY. SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN PRODUCTION . I DON'T SEE HOW THAT FIXES A PROBLEM . IF DONE CORRECTLY AND PREPPED BEFORE SPRAYING MAYBE. NEED TO REPLACE ALL FRAMES NOT COATED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
